They are playign all over Europe, all through the UK festival season, but not ONE appearance at ANY uk festival.
Instead we have Jay-Zeee, Duffy and the fucking Feeling.
What is WRONG with this country's music scene? How can we miss out on having a seminal band like Sonic Youth play here in favour of our own-brand corporate crap.
I can't help but think of Marks and Spencer's cola. Wait, stay with me here...everytime I go in there, and want to buy a Coke, I have to settle for this piss-poor alternative. Is that what festivals are like in the UK, or am I being over-dramatic?
Do our corporations's marketing depts have such a strangle-hold on this island's music scene, that we are having to put up with sub-standard acts at our festies instead of proper, rocking, legendary bands like Sonic Youth?
what the fuck
are you talking about? this reads like an Onion article, but im guessing it is supposed to be serious.
Yes, I don't believe
Sonic Youth have ever played the UK. It's mainly due to Centrica.
I think
your just going to the wrong festivals :/
And the wrong shops too
You can't buy Coca Cola in M&S.
Why would you want to?
Surely there'd be a supermarket or a newsagent nearby.
I really
don't like Sonic Youth... at all. So this does not bother me in the slightest.
Rumours are mounting
over the possibility that they'll headline the formerly-known-as-Carling tent at Reading.
really?
where did you hear this? That wasn't meant to sound accusing at all I just couldn't phrase it so it didn't :)
the eFestivals forum are usually on point with this
and the rumour mill has been a-churning.
Nothing concrete thus far though.
i checked their calendar
on sonicyouth.com and theyve nothing booked at all for the end of August. hope its true though, havent seen em in years. The last time they came to Newcastle was in the bloody 80's.
I have seen
Sonic Youth 126 times I haven't even tried to. Fuck them, they're always over here.
hmm.
i gave 'NYC Ghosts and Flowers' another try after ten years today, its actually really lovely after all. Am i crazy.
^ The last proper SY album
Before they stopped trying. Anyone that dismisses it out of hand really doesn't like Sonic Youth. It really is quite good.
'small flowers crack concrete'
is up there with 'teenage riot' and 'titanium expose' for me now. classy stuff.
hmm
I like that track bt the rest is pretty bad, I think murray street was their last great album, it may have been nothing new but it was perfect
'nurse' and 'rather ripped'
are both great albums too though surely?
im not a fan
although not really given a chance, they seem really sonic youth on autopilot which worked out great on murray streey but eah maybe im wrong any particular songs I should go back to to reappraise?
