they'll all be asked to leave because theres been like a scandal about edinburghs admissions. Apparently they dont want people who got into oxbridge and give unconditionals to students who did worse in thier AS's.
im still fucking bitter about that.
Scotland is a country of around 5.5 million people, and has 3 or 4 properly good unis. England is a country of around 50 Million people, but has better (i.e more established) unis.
It is more difficult for scottish students to get into english unis than it is for english students to get into scottish unis.
Therefore it's pretty fair to make it easy for scottish students into scottish unis.
Actually I dunno. Sixth form college looks really good though. It's shit still being at school when you're 17, surrounded by 13 year olds. You feel like a baby. It would be nice to have that responsibility sooner.
But still, we do harder exams at a younger age. we are totally cool.
I spent 6th year doing three advanced highers, did i need them? did i fuck! unconditional all the way baby!
but if you do advanced higher maths you will find 1st year maths a piece of piss. i tried to drop it once i got my unconditional, they wouldnt let me, so i refused to do any work, still got my modules though, yay. other than that, 2 advanced highers A's! yeah!!
Not continuing it to uni though. As of september I am officially a sciences free zone, which is odd given i'm also doing advanced physics. I will be arty farty: woohoo.
mainly because i'm going to fail them and even though it doesn't actually matter (has anyone mentioned unconditionals yet?), they will be a big blemish of failure on my lovely straight-A certificate :(
HIGH SCHOOL GRADES AREN'T THE BE ALL AND END ALL OF HAPPINESS AND SUCCESS IN LIFE?!?! my entire belief system has just crumbled.
i actually don't particularly care, it's just that my certificate won't look quite as nice and smug. also, it's the depressing beginning of my descent into ultimate failure in everything i do, but you know.
don't forget A05 (historical, social context etc) for those papers that require it!
It is the most common reason why bright students lose marks as for a lot of units AO5 is double weighted. Do not forget to say something about the author / poet's life, historical or social situation.
I assume you are Yr 12? If you are really serious about doing English at Uni then they will need the A level. I'd talk urgently to your head of 6th / college whoever about seeing if you can do AS/A2 in a year (in place of dropping a 4th AS maybe).
They'll need a real sign of commitment from you for this kind of radical change (be prepared to talk about noveld you've been reading recently at least)
Good luck. Same thing nearly happened to me (I did Maths and Physics and only chose English at the last minute).
Advanced higher's suck even more.
They're harder than A-Levels but generally carry less weight in terms of universities.
What do I care. Un-con-dition-al.
Stop bragging about that unconditional!
I hate Scottish people for this reason. WHY DO YOU DESERVE EJOOCAYSHUN MORE THAN ME.
hopefully

Or something.
thats not true
its because scottish people are a bunch of scrounging benefits urchins and cant afford to go to english unis.
Oooo that felt good.
Or maybe our education system is better?
BURRRRRNNNNNNN.

nah
college sucks. especially in surrey.
Do you go to esher college? :D
i could so so do with a friend.
Surrey colleges are awful.
Goldalming college
I almost went there
should i have?
i really want to move away from esher college.
no its crap
its just full of teenagers who drive bmw's to school and dont realy have anything interesting to say 90% of the time.
Esher is scabby though.
I thought the reason
that you have an extra year at university was because you learnt less in your highers.
Oh also, it's not really a brag
because it's really easy to get an unconditional if you're in scotland. It's more a gloat.
Yes. Fine. But still stop!
^so this

Calm down
Not having straight As really isn't a big deal. In the grand scheme of things they're really not that important anyway once you get to uni.
you mean...
HIGH SCHOOL GRADES AREN'T THE BE ALL AND END ALL OF HAPPINESS AND SUCCESS IN LIFE?!?! my entire belief system has just crumbled.
i actually don't particularly care, it's just that my certificate won't look quite as nice and smug. also, it's the depressing beginning of my descent into ultimate failure in everything i do, but you know.
scottish people dont go to university
theyre all in manchester drinking all beer ever.
They're the bane of my life,
a blot on my education which I am keen to forget. I feel like scrubbing a hardcopy of my CV so hard as to make a circular hole where they should be.
finals suck harder
Going to fail your English?
"A level", or "Some levels".
totally.
i'm doing AS at the moment.
Frustrating.
What is AS level?
I don't know what it is.
that's what they call the first year exams now.
they're a stand alone qualification
Truth
Sociology A2 is the worst. So many theories to learn, none of them even remotely interesting. I'm concentrating on English revision.
GCSEs are worse
Erm, HGV Licenses
breathe
Sorry!
Not funny. I'll get me coat.
Well I'm doing four of them at the moment.
And need three As. :(
oxbridge?
Nope.
Exeter.
wow
thats a bit strange...
It's a pain in the arse.
Especially as York, who are rated better, want AAB. I dunno.
eeeek
where are you off to? you must be super clever!
too late.
home with you
ha!
you forgot to log in as twee_loser
?
Yeah piss off
She's mine.
shes all yours man
*runs*
LOL
Yeah, I'm doing my bac this year.
I have exams in nine subjects! NINE! Including subjects I suck rilly bad at!
I once made a hilarious joke in my french class about a french person have "no bac".
It was hilarious definitely.
Attention those doing AS / A2 English Lit
don't forget A05 (historical, social context etc) for those papers that require it!

most of my essays
are too AO5 heavy, i end up losing marks for it. Dont spend enough time talking about style and stuff. :(
balance is good
as is remembering what AOs the examiner is looking for - double weighting is the key for getting the maximum points.
Mention the key words in the essay title at least once per paragraph or you will lose AO1 marks btw.
I once did sweatshop A level examining and we got taught these things whilst having our amphetamine injections.
Mr english advice giver man
i want to do english at university but i've been real stupid and am not currently doing english as an a-level.
Am i doomed? :(
erm yeah probably...
I assume you are Yr 12? If you are really serious about doing English at Uni then they will need the A level. I'd talk urgently to your head of 6th / college whoever about seeing if you can do AS/A2 in a year (in place of dropping a 4th AS maybe).

I liked Advanced Highers
mostly because i did three really easy ones and already had an unconditional
yay!
which advanced highers are easy?
and why did i not take them?
