hello, i need to get a power supply for my boss tu-2 tuner, should i heed boss' advice and "use boss psa adaptor only" or is this just scare mongering to increase their profits?

That's like BOSS suggesting that you should only use BOSS electricity. It applies to all products... they say it so you spend more. Just get a transformer that has the right adapter and voltage. I was using a plug off a Nintendo Entertainment System for years.
Any 9v adaptor will do the trick!
The same goes for about 90% of effects pedals that size.
