I hate it when people complain about people who actually do something saying they're not doing enough or doing it wrong when all they do themselves is snipe.
but the petition's title is "We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to resist the ban on outside drinking and maintain the liberal culture of Soho." That seems pretty accurate, assuming that's actually what's being proposed
Am gewing too moove into [err huh] ..err So...ho... s'Gowwnna cost mih LOTS o' monee beckozz it's got lots o' barrrs and izz in the middul of Lundun...OH NOES...ISS ALL NOISY [tears tears]
This petition as been created by the licensee's of Soho. If you live, work or just visit Soho, and you are familiar with The Endurance Pub and want to support us against Westminster Councils objectice for a complete ban on outside drinking and socializing then please sign our petition. It is the councils intention to enforce a complete ban on outside drinking in all licensed premises.
*I think 'objectice' is a type of 'objective' but maybe it's some fancy form I've never seen.
due to a noise complaint during a Nuke Them All night... which in turn closed down the actual venue and left the night homeless... I mean, WHY MOVE into Hackney if you want garden suburbs, puppies, and trees?
Similar point... all it takes is one person.
Honestly - some people have fuck all to do but complain about this sort of shit. (realises this is slightly ironic).
before that place was just a strip club right? no major noise problems.. sticking a loud electro night rammed full of people on mdma and k, open til 5am or whatever - well i do think local residents have a right to complain.
i get fucked off about the noise of people stumbling down the street by my building (it's a bit of a shortcut), but accept that i'm a newish resident of hoxton and knew full well what the area was like (indeed, that's why i moved here). but if someone opened a new club full of fucked electrokidz that went on til dawn right by my house, i'd go michael alig on the arse. or moan to the council anyway.
as for soho. WTF. it's not a noise issue - most of the pubs are closed by 11/12. it really is part of the character of the area and has been since the 60s, if not 50s! and whilst i understand cracking down at The Endurance as it's by a council estate where people don't have a choice where to live, the rest of Soho is not like that and this just seems silly. Plus next to zero pubs in the neighbourhood have beer gardens, so in the summer months everyone's gonan go elsewhere. i don't really understand the rationale behind such a ban..
i work a lot on berwick st opposite the endurance who are being targeted by westminster council, it is one woman who lives in council flats opposite who has complained about noise. The council are basicaly using her as a scapegoat to try and set a precedent. If it happens to the endurance it will happen to the whole west end.
points to consider:
the pub does not even have a late license and kicks out at 11pm. Have you tried to get a noise complaints officer out before midnight even in suburbia???
11pm is not an unreasonable time to be noisy until, especially in the very center of one of the largest cities on the planet....
The council are trying to angle for crime and safety also, again codswallop.
the only folk in the endurance these days are media workers, there is never any aggro of any description.
The hipocracy is quite stinging, this seems to be a larger issue for them than the row of openly operated brothels opposite the pub.
SOHO is a unique environment, and part of the city's culture and heritage, to enforce entirely unwarranted social limitations is ridiculous.
also the frosty bint who complained also complains about the market stall owners shouting "get yer fruit and veg" etc. she's a tool.
More info please
these online petitions
don't really work
Well it takes 10 seconds to do
so it's no great hardship
^^^ the right attitude.
I hate it when people complain about people who actually do something saying they're not doing enough or doing it wrong when all they do themselves is snipe.
Are you saying the government just set them up
to keep the mailbag down?
Sneaky...
Excuse me if I'm wrong
but during my several trips to Soho I haven't really noticed any pubs which necessitate drinking in the street. Most of them have indoor bars, right?
in summer when it's hot and busy and rammed
sometimes it's a necessity to stand out on the street to avoid someone's shoulder being shoved up your arse, non?
Find another pub
If a pubs rammed during the summer, it's not likely to be going out of business if those exrta street-drinking customers go elsewhere...
There aren't any pubs in the west end that aren't rammed.
It's just a factoid of round there. Too many drinkers and not enough licensed premises. Scary.
But still
I think the petition's title is a bit misleading, is it not?
Rose's title is
but the petition's title is "We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to resist the ban on outside drinking and maintain the liberal culture of Soho." That seems pretty accurate, assuming that's actually what's being proposed
Those streets shouldn't even have cars allowed on them
They're too narrow and the only people who drive on them are rich cunts in Mercs and Beamers who try to run people over.
Should be just pedestrianised and have seating everywhere for outside drinkage and eating.
How would they get the
food and drink delivered then?
By RICKSHAW. Or X-WING.
Hmm. Probably my Mclusky reference is out of place there.
A Mclusky reference
is never out of place.
There needs to be more
info in the 'more info' section, though I like the way they are banning outside socializing as well as drinking.
Imagine it. A tourist stops to ask you directions
and a copper comes up. "Would you gentlemen be *socialising*? We don't allow that round 'ere. I shall 'ave to ask you to accompany me to the station."
'Accompany' sounds too informal and friendly
The copper would have to arrest himself
It's Police State gone mad!
is this actually something that is going to be banned?
most of these petitions turn out to be for nonsense
*Nonce-Sense
WE THE UNDERSIGNED
DEMAND MORE NONCE-SENSE
I FUCKING HATE PEOPLE
WHO MOVE INTO SOHO THEN COMPLAIN ABOUT PEOPLE GOING OUT THERE
I hope this has something to do with this petition!
Not really, but I concur with that.
The fact that some manky block of flats got the Angel's beer garden licence revoked is a PILE OF SHIT.
"AH halooo..
Am gewing too moove into [err huh] ..err So...ho... s'Gowwnna cost mih LOTS o' monee beckozz it's got lots o' barrrs and izz in the middul of Lundun...OH NOES...ISS ALL NOISY [tears tears]
Twats
^ :`D
:D
this has happened in Manchester and Cardiff too, it sucks.
a couple of things :
Why just Soho? Most pubs in the capital have people standing outside, especially in good weather.
What about the smoking ban? People will go outside for a cigarette and take their drinks with them
Well it's actually Westminster Council from the looks of it:

can't see that happening
to pubs actually in Westminster
Yeah. I'm guessing it's not a real threat.
That said it would be stupid to try to ban people drinking on the streets of Soho. It's surely one of the nice things about summer in the city.
What, so londoners can't
drink OUTSIDE pubs? My heart bleeds.
Save our village pubs/post offices/last bastions of rural community. That's a campaign worth fighting for
If you spend any amount of time in Soho
like us, I think it actually is worth fighting for
ey up

this probably wont happen anyway,
as its on one woman who is complaining about the Endurance.
it took ONE ASSHOLE to close down Images in Hackney
due to a noise complaint during a Nuke Them All night... which in turn closed down the actual venue and left the night homeless... I mean, WHY MOVE into Hackney if you want garden suburbs, puppies, and trees?

Yeah
because the vast majority of people who live in Hackney consciously moved there
COULD YOU KEEP IT DOWN UP THERE
trying to do some work
it's a fairely residential area
