is this one an improvement on the last two? they were okay when they started, sort of built to spill lite, but the last two were pretty awful.

and nearly as good as trans. if you don't like transatlanticism then you probably won't like this one, although saying that it's a lot crunchier and loud than plans.

Ordinary 'insert indie cliches here' stock Canadian band
a friend put them on in his car the other day and said 'you'll love this one alone for the bassline' - it sounded like James Blunt but with the standard anodyne sub Neil YOung lazy singing. If this is your favourite band then peel your ears off now.

Everything about this post is wrong.
I used to love Death Cab
around the time of We Have The Facts... and The Photo Album, but was then massively underwhelmed by Transatlanticism. And the less said about Plans the better.
So is this worth buying, or what?
maybe not 'buying' as such
but hearing, yes. has some earlier style songs, and good variation. it's not the slick, bland, mellow album i feared it might be.
It's an excellent album.
Sort of a distillation of everything they've done thus far, i.e. the melancholy of Transatlanticism mixed with the rough edges of The Photo Album.
Definitely worth a buy.

but i cant see how it'd be exciting to anyone, as a piece of writing? i mean, it does the job well and expresses his opinion very clearly, but i dont get what's *that* great about it?
