So, the movie is out soon and in certain quarters this news has been met with squeals of joy and nostalgia as people hark back to the 'good old days' when Horseface, Ginger, the WASP one and the Slutty one would 'take' Manhattan on a weekly basis.

But, wasn't it all a bit, well...shit?

Some complaints:

SJP is one of those women that only other women find attractive.

The entire series was a vehicle for the most shameless product placement in the history of television.

The story was pretty dull, the SJP indecision thing was seriously grating.

The whole appeal of a show centred around 'sassy', 'independent', 'modern' women was tempered somewhat by the fact that 99% of women aren't urbane, highly paid, urban professionals with glamorous careers and utterly hedonistic lifestyles.

In essence was SATC essentially regressive or counter-feminist in so far as it presented ostensibly intelligent women to be fashion obsessed clothes horses who may well hold it down in the boardroom, but collapse into an emotional heap over obviously unsuitable men?

Oh and who was it that propagated the myth that SJP knows about style?

Srsly.

"SJP is one of those women that only other women find attractive."

never a truer word spoken.

see also: Keira Knightley is one of those women than only men find attractive. (i realise how dumb that sounds, but it isn't)

re: keira.

not true, i would.

she is b e a u t i f u l.

other girls are probably just jealous.

Well I wouldn't

and I'm a man.

why?

any reason?

to be honest, i'm not sure i would

she's just....too skinny. and no, don't read that as meaning i have a jo brand fetish

i can see that i guess.

but her face!

i agree totally

so, http://tinyurl.com/3kjm8x = so much yes
http://tinyurl.com/2vgnzp = so much no

yeah, you can see her ribs there.

not so cool. bring back the hourglass!

that's my point

i'm assuming that if i were to "would" (ouch, bad english), then i'd be likely to see ribs, right? = not good

I just don't think Keira Knightly is particularly attractive.

She's a very ordinary woman who is also a fairly ordinary actress from what I've seen. Not bad just not special. Much like Orlando Bloom in female form.

not true

i have been in love with keira knightley for a very long time.

that makes do!

it's "brusma's myths/prejudices are being shattered day" on dis today

*two

not do, obviously

I agree with the SJP thing. She looks like a horse.

She dresses like a bloke would dress his GF if he was trying to make her look stylish.

That Cynthia Nixon though... HAWT RED HEAD.

chillax

it was just a tv programme that i liked watching. i didn't watch it for insight.

Miranda also often commented on how shallow and pathetic they all are.

oh, great!

self-referential anti-feminism

People read too much into SATC..

It's just enjoyable trash tv that doesn't require you to think, isn't it?

^ this

completely

i just enjoyed watching it. it was good tv. it wasn't my bible. if it was anyone's bible then perhaps they should get a life and not idolise fabricated characters?

ehhh

i think the point that's made is that just because it's trash tv that doesn't require you to think doesn't mean it has no effect on you, not even at a subconscious level

I demand well concealed subplots

that are clearly a satire on the decline of the textile industry.

well put

and the programme was SHITE. i was subject to it recently and took to biting my tongue til i swallowed so much blood that i passed out

i think i was a bit too young for it at the time

probably would have hated it now

From a girl's perspective

it's nice to watch for the shoes and some of the outfits. From a realistic perspective, really, most of it was a crock of shit.

As Alcock mentioned last night, he watched it because (he thought) it gave an interesting insight into women (of that age). Truth is, it doesn't. If people really do believe everything that they see on TV, then there are a hell of a lot of men out there who believe that those four fabricated scary-ass characters are what they're going to be stuck with if they end up still being single (or first time divorced) in their late 30's/early 40's.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

*Shrugs*. Though I guess it could be different in the States. I do know a few scary American ladies but I don't know if their lives are like that.

I also hate her face. HATE it.

Keira can be WOW sometimes and bleurgh others, imo.

nuffing

i only watched it very occasionly when there was nothing better on.
