Drowned in Sound

I'm stupidly excited. It's amazing that this is happening on our doorstep. I'd guess there've been a quarter of a million people come down from Scotland, the place is buzzing, the stadium's packed (for once!), you actually can't move in the city centre, there are big screens in all of the main squares and literally the WHOLE of town is at a standstill. It's going to be an exciting but cagey game. I'd be surprised if it's not won by the only goal, or even if it goes to extra time and penalties. I'm absolutely buzzing. I'm going for Rangers on pens.

I do, it's an awful competition.

but you can't help but get excited about a British team playing a game at your clubs stadium. It's the format more than anything that i dislike, it's awful, the standard of the teams is dreadful. Also, the coverage is dire. When someone mentions the Waffa Cup you instantly think of David Pleat talking shit over a bore draw at some atmosphere-less ground on ITV32.

i hope Rangers win

because Zenit are dirty racists

is there any of manchester left then?

the scots haven't been this far south since braveheart.

They can take Albert Square

but they'll never take our freeeeeeeedoooooooom

Yeah

and no Rangers fans have ever engaged in anti-Catholic chanting or the like.

I don't mind who wins but Zenit were mighty impressive against Leverkusen and Bayern Munich I have to say.

you silly

race is different from religion

Zenit have been playing some sexy football over this tournament, but i still want Rangers to win (despite them being horrendously boring). Underdog spirit etc.

The stadium looks nice

Think they'll let us keep the new electronic advertising boards?

what a dull pile of pish

apparently the big screens in Manchester city centre broke down at kick off, lots of unhappy huns shouting at the police and throwing bottles at the screens (cause that'll fix them).
Unless the Russians score this game is penalties and snoozefest 2008 all the way

ha!, how typical.

Manchester will be in pieces come the'morrow.

I should hope so, seeing as we paid for 'em!

I think the first half as been brilliant, even though nothing much has seemed to happen. Zenit are a great side, really comfortable on the ball from their centre-halves right through the midfield. As the commentator alluded to, thier forward's been a bit shit, but all four of their attacking midfielders look like sublime footballers, Arshavin & Zurianov especially, and Tymoschuk behind them looks solid. They've been the better side, but hopefully they'll get tired of playing patiently and it might leave Rangers some room. All four of the Rangers defenders have been superb, add Whittaker & Thomson to that, too. I think this is a brilliant game, but then again i thought the last big final we had down here was super (Milan/Juve in 2003) but most people thought that was cagey and a bit dull. Goals would be nice, obviously, but i like these kind of intense but defensive-minded tactical battles. Ace!

0-0

what a surprise

WTF

is going on with the stadium announcer! Great goal though!

Indeed

nice finish.
Maybe Rangers will start trying to play football now.

Rangers are cunts.

I had a cheeky tenner on them to win the cup tonight at 6/5, and Hull to beat Walford at 11/10. I'd have been in the beans had they not completely given in. (Crosses fingers for late McCulloch header, he normally scores against us so...)

thought:

why are all the russians topless?

You know the way it's all coldski in Russia?

and it's not over here?
That.

why the fuck did they bring on kris boyd till the 86th minute.

christ sometimes i don't get walter smith.

Boyd used to be my footballing hero

til he fucked off to Rangers :@

so now they want to score?

jesus.

p.s. how the fuck did he not score?

you can only be cautious for so long.

until it comes back to bite you in the ass walter smith.

congrats to zenit. they thoroughly deserved it.

i think if rangers played attacking football with their squad

it would've made zenit's drubbing of leverkusen look like a narrow victory. rangers have limited resources, being not backed by morally questionable energy giant Gazprom. i hate rangers' football, but if i were them, i think that'd be the only way i'd stand a chance of winning, playing negatively. just a shame they conceded, and it all went to shit

All Over

:o)

FUCKING YES FUCKING YES

NA NA NA NA
GET IT RIGHT RUCKIN UP YE!

well done Zenit

deserved winners of the Waffa Cup. attacking football with good attacking players beats defensive football with good defensive players

zenit deserved it

despite their time wasting

GRFUY Rankers

well done Zenit

that arse shaving guy looks dynamite

so so so

happy

:)

I must've been to that stadium 100 times...

and i've never saw a trophy walkway/galley/whatever it's called. Where the fuck was that? I need to know.

ARRH

the only safe place for me is my student halls...i live 2 minutes from piccadilly station and can see eastlands from my room.
the glaswegians were non too happy at the big screen going blank in picc. gardens, we walked down shortly after slightly wondering why there were so many fans not watching it...
now? well i can hear lots of chanting/boo-ing etc. and the sound of police/ambulance sirens.
oh dear
but zenit deserved to win... :( !

best team won

theres only so many teams you can beat without scoring. zenit were just too good in the end

Na

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na.

There is a bigger match happening on Friday.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFAbXv0h7sk

Surprise, surprise...

stick a load of Glasweigens in one place and people end up scrapping and getting stabbed. Scummers.

is this being reported anywhere, twee?

i can't find it

actually i've just found this

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/manchester/7401814.stm

and am wondering how one pays "£4,000 to £5,000" for a trip from Glasgow to Manchester. am i just being naive here?

ITN News, brusma.

Also, lolling at this quote. A Rangers fan talking of their dissapointment at the big screen not working - "Some people are really angry they've spent a lot of money - maybe £4,000 to £5,000 - to come down here for this." £5k, for a train from Glasgee to Manc, £80 tops, mate.

ta

though i was hoping for something a little more reliable and online than ITN News (hate-itv-centric)

something goes wrong

and they start fighting among themselves

total arseholes

its only going to get worse i fear :(

it wasn't

like this in seville 03.

Celtic fans are generally more civilised.

Most of them come from outside Glasgow.

"eeee Manchester, it's a FOOOKIN disgrace"

no Glasgeeee, YOU ARE

Agreed. Some of these quotes are absolute gold.

"Manchester could nay organise a piss-up in a brewery, it's an absolute shithole". Methinks they'd know, on both counts. Thousands of catholic Mancs hold their bellies and giggle. Theys just pissed cos they lost, losers.
