im helping someone find some music for a film set in the Rhodesian Bush War in Africa in the 1970s and was hoping some of you could help me out.
It doesnt have to be from Africa or the 70s.
I played him some Shackleton and it went down a treat so anything like that would be great.
Sorry if thats a bit vague.
fela kuti
im fairly sure hes thinking of using
smaller less established acts.
dont ask me why its just a hunch. I think if he wanted people like Fela Kuti he wouldnt have asked me to help him.

its wicked kinda african rhythem based trip-hop dance music. I haven't seen a CD around but he is awsome live and I'm sure he has some recorded stuff.

this explains more.
Using the polyrhythmic rhythms of Nigerian JuJu music as a catalyst, writer, musician, DJ and Blacktronica collective founder, Charlie Dark breaks out his turntables and drum machines and returns to the studio and live stage with his first musical project since the demise of Attica blues back in 2002. Inspired by record hunting trips to West Africa he saw the parallels between the beats he was programming back in London and the rhythms he was hearing within the grooves of the dusty old African records he was sampling.
Get some
Brian Eno and David Byrne - My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts...
Some African sounding stuff on there..
not really electronic, but really good.
I recently got hold of 'Nigeria Rocks Special: Psychedelic Afro-Rock and Fuzz Funk in 1970s in Nigeria' which is ace, you can listen to a couple of sample of tracks here: http://www.turntablelab.com/cds/413/1731/45029.html . And then if you want the whole thing i guess i could yousendit you or something.
that sounds absolutely awesomly perfect!
cheers man. i shall order it right away!
don't know if that's the best place to get it from,
so doing a bit of searching might be best.
I got it from indietorrents so have no hesitations with sending it you over something, but if it's for a film you might want better quality i guess.
Layo & Bushwacka!
often have some well african moments esspecialy tunes on Low Life like Kusekhaya
can i add
that it has to sound quite dark and tense.
Thats why i mentioned Shackleton.
http://www.last.fm/music/Shackleton
that kind of vibe
this is a mad sugestion but how about
HEALTH they are very intence and their rhythems are proper tribal.
i had that idea earlier yeah
great minds and all that!
i think "Lost Time" could work really well.
yeah wicked track that one
there was a big thing a while back in techno where it was pretty much all tribal kinda stuff just like now you can't move for minimal techno back then it was tribal. like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qA_ad9oHA3s
ooo and also how about some Leftfield
Konono No. 1 sound pretty electrical in a weird way
and very African
Yeesh, no one's mentioned Leftfield yet?
Plenty of african sounds and rythms on Leftism, their dub opus.
yep I did
both their alubms have a good slice of dub and african stylings
erm this might sound silly but...
foals?
not so much electronica
and probably not at all what you want but its probably my only chance ever to post about this...theres a amazing piece of music called African Sanctus by David Fanshawe. Its for full choir, african percussion, vocal soloists and 'taped soloists' and then proper full on drum kit & electric guitars. Seriously, its incredible.
^ my sister and my mum love this
i've never really listened to it. i probably should though.
try
the carl craig remix of cesaria evora- angola.
buraka som sistema might be worth a go, too.
Talking Heads - Listening Wind
Would Rhodesia by Japan be too obvious?
dOP - Foly
Amazing deep house with vocals recorded live in mali.
konono 1
