Gig tickets - recent prices

Correct me if I'm wrong but have they gone really stupidly high recently?

I saw someone selling Rufus Wainwright tickets at work today for £75 a piece - and that seems to be the cost price.

Anyway, thoughts, and/or put me in my place if I'm missing out on something here.

gig tickets on the whole..

are the same price.

FESTIVAL tickets on the other hand. have increased ridiculous amounts in the last 7 years or so..

Rufus hasn't always been

£75 though, surely?

no that seems a tad ourageous.

but that's unusual no?

small gigs.. usually pay £6-10
more well know band £15
more more well known band £25

i don't think i have ever paid more than 25 for a gig....
except for Daft Punk, which was in Amsterdam, and i paid £50 per ticket (but that was off ebay, and the RRP was only £25)

Maybe prices differ across the uk, depends on venue/city/band

I agree with these prices

I havent spent any more than £12 on a gig for ages. I tend to go to small gigs though their hasn't been a big band to get excited about for a while... or I havent got enough cash to go lookin for it hehe... I wouldn't mind seeign My Bloody Valentine or someone like that.

Are the Ruffus Waiwright tickts like in a box or somthing like that cos that sounds like a mad price.

Reading 1995 - Weekend tickets = 58 quid

You wouldn't even get a day ticket for that this year.

Also, suffice it to say that the line-up was fucking incredible in 1995, several thousand multitudes of a billion times better than the offerings this year.

The 'noughties' - The decade that value forgot.

yeah

even 2003 it was only £90

five years later its £150?! wtf

It's just as well that we've all got 66% more money

than we had in 2003 then, isn't it?

Oh.

germany

is SO expensive i can't afford to go to gigs. adam green was about £20. granted, the germans love him, but the average price is £17 a gig, for bands nobody over here really knows.

on average...

i only spend 8 quid or so per gig. which i think is pretty reasonable for 3 bands...

i either pay between £5-£8

and £25-£30, depending on the band or the venue. which is a biggish leap in prices.

the most i've paid was £50, though. i think. maybe even £60

Lots of free shows in Bournemouth.........

Klaxons, Operator Please, etc etc

Granted, they're not bands that I would pay to see, but you can't argue with freebies.

Horse The Band are playing on Saturday, that's only about a fiver, Gay for Johnny Depp were 6 quid which is totally reasonable too.

Local night tend to be 3 quid which I'm more than happy to play, especially if they're doing some bizarre breakcore thing at the end.

But, yeah....as a rule anything over 25 is a bit of a joke unless it's a genuine
all dayer with 5,6 or 7 bands you really want to see.

Gig tickets

have undoubtedly risen above the general rate of inflation, and are set to keep on rising.

Part of the joys of illegal downloading unfortunately - as one revenue stream dries up bands and the industry as a whole look for others. Just look at the amount of bands now doing deals with live promotions companies, and record labels looking to tie in bands' live income to their deals.

Beck tickets...

are like £40 a pop for manc, Guerro tour was like half of that!

me mate got off ebay

2 standing tickets for £1 for that beck tour

It's the credit crunch

blame Gordon Brown

recently

i've been getting a bit pissy i've had to spend over £6 on a gig, unless its someone really big i love.

Celine Dion tickets were between £45-£125 (retail) at Manchester Arena

and I'm seeing The Ruby Suns, Speck Mountain, The Beep Seals and Cats in Paris in a tiny venue in Manchester for £6 on Friday.

There really is no justice.
