3) I did not see until you told me and I rushed to MSNBC.com. Its interesting in the timing. I guess Edwards has chosen this time to do it as a way of beating down the good press Clinton otherwise would have enjoyed after her MASSIVE West Virginia win last night.

Edwards's endorsement removes a potential obstacle more than gives Obama a boost. The Press can't say "why hasn't he endoresed Obama yet" anymore and choosing to do it now before Obama has it wrapped up keeps Edwards relevent. So overall it helps in the primary, especially as Edwards' supporters are the ones who Obama has had trouble getting - white working poor.

In the general I can't see it helping much. Just like Romney endorsing McCain. Edwards, like Romney, is not the player he could have been because he pandered and switched too much, especially after John Kerry lost 2004 for that very reason.

If Edwards was more popular in North Carolina it might help Obama make some headway in that state but as he failed to help the dems carry it in 2004 I doubt it will make a difference. It could possibly help working class whites come round to Obama more in places like Michigan and Pennsylvania and begin Obama down the road to building on his existing coalition and strengthening it with lower income voters in the midwest who he has been having some trouble with of late.
