hi!
I don't think RFTC are talked about enough on these boards, so let's have a big love-in for them. Favourite song, album, band member, the time you saw them live, etc.
(For those that are thinking 'wuhh?', they did this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=777kGx7-qLw) - LOOK! PUPPIES AND STUFF!
Yeah? Yeah.
ON A ROPE ON A ROPE GOT ME HANGING ON A ROPE!!
<3
On an
anal petard! got me hanging on an anal petard!
best saints rip-offs ever
:D
Born in '69
Whoop! Yeah!
I want it!
hot snakes is better,
but yeah there still good!
WHOO! YEAH!
I NEED IT!
WHOO! YEAH!
I STEAL IT!
So good. The video's amazing as well. Speedo makes the guitar fly AND catch on fire! <3

Circa Now!
But RFTC is good also.
Circa Now! is most enjoyable,
especially 'Glazed' - "smoke pot, smoke pot, everybody smoke pot!"
I really love the self-titled album. Okay, so it's a bit poppy, but it's got some ace tracks on it and the duet between Speedo and Holly Golightly on 'Eye on You' is brilliant.
RFTC = Best Live Band
They were just the best band live I reckon I have ever seen.
The records were good but they didn't touch the shows.
I saw them lots in the UK and elsewhere between '96 and '02 and wouldn't dare to pick out one show as the best.
Can't think of any band currently that can match the charisma, the noise, the charm and the humour that Rocket had live...........
i saw them at reading
festival a good few years ago in one of the tents. was quite good, i did only knwo the on a rope song though haha
Oh yes!
Just got the RIP cd/dvd.
Favourite track, 'Storm Over Branson' off Hot Charity (which I only have on cassette and can't seem to track it down anywhere), favourite album, probably Circa Now! as it was the first I heard. Saw them at Manchester Academy in 1995 and it still ranks as one of the best (and loudest) gigs I've ever seen!
Loved them!
Hot Charity
Last Astronaut - Hot Charity is on CD with the 'Cut Carefully' EP on the Swami label. Look at the swami website, they should have it for sale on there - www.swamirecords.com
Cool!
Cheers for that! I'll check that out!
*Cloud Over Branson
killer EP/mini album that. Pushed is such a stonkingly brilliant intro. The RIP cd/dvd is a thing of beauty, although the bit where Speedo gets hit in the face with a toy gun isn't cool. :( The inlay booklet that accompanies it is pretty funny as well; I love his rant about stage divers and he thoughts on 'On A Rope'.
I always get that wrong!
Yes, Cloud over Branson is what I meant! Cloud/Storm, I was close!
Yeah, that must have really hurt! Fair play to him for carrying on, there looked to be a nasty lump there by the end of the show.
Group Sounds
my favourite.
I have big love for Group Sounds.
Proper rock 'n roll surf-punk feel to it and nice arabian style vibes as well, if that makes sense. (Venom! Venom!)
Group Sounds is amazing!
That and Scream Dracula Scream are my favourites. Saw them live a couple of times and they rocked me thoroughly on both occasions! Speedo has got to be one of the best frontmen around, so much love for this band!
Scream Dracula Scream
No-one has mentioned this album as their favourite, which I find a bit of a surprise - it's not my favourite, but has killer tracks on it - 'Fat Pig', 'Come See Come Saw', 'Drop Out', 'Suit City'.......
scream dracula scream has the best opening run of songs ever
too slow...
sorry, posted my reply and then saw surfsip's & thingsthatfly responses - respect!
nothing does it for me on record quite as much as 'the state of the art is on fire' ep.... pure class.....
is anyone looking forward to seeing night marchers next month? i like the album.......
aye, I shall be seeing The Night Marchers
when they tour. Love the album so much. Everything Speedo touches turns to gold.
Favourite song: Guilt Free
Favourite Member: SPEEDO!
Favourite Album: So tricky...at the moment I'm really into Live from Camp X-Ray, but Scream Dracula Scream for introducing me to the band and Hot Charity as an all round package.
They were GREAT at Reading 2001, but my favourite gig was when i saw them in Vancouver in April 2003, North American audiences are so much more lively.
Man I don't know
been to a few gigs here in Vancouver since the start of the year, the crowds have been poser-heavy, with only a couple of rows getting into it. The crowd for Cut Copy was quite good....but not lairy as crowds in, say, Birmingham.
Speedo is a genius.
One of the greatest bands of all time
Shame you had to link up On A Rope though. It's a great song, but it's the only song people who don't know this band would have heard. They should have been so much more well known than that track.
The vinyl only Hot Charity (came out around the same time as Scream Dracula Scream) wins best album for me. Pushed, Poison Eye and Lorna Doom etc. = incredibleness.
Yeah, soz about that.
I did put in a link to Born in 69 though. Pushed fucking owns, especially at ear-splitting volume. The live version on the dvd is incredible.
about time...
The best live band I've ever seen, loved them enough to get the rocket tattoo anyway!! Best song IMO Human Torch off TSOAIOF
not as good as hot snakes though are they?
ssshhh.
This isn't a comparison thread! Hot Snakes are totes great though.
=D oh ok
SOMETHING ABOUT HANGING ON A ROPE!!!!11
I saw
Rocket years ago in Edinburgh on their 1st UK tour. One of the best live bands I've seen, made even better by having to watch Bis supporting. Rocket were great
BOYCHUCKER!

GIANT MONKEY IN THE CROWD!
Does look like the most fun gig ever. I wish I'd gone. :'(
They were brilliant
I still remember Reading (2000?) where they finished their set with Born in 69 and on a rope- I had just enough time to run to the front during Middle...
Also, does anyone know where 'Pigeon Eater' from RIP originally comes from? Can't find it anywhere, but live it sounds ace!
I miss these guys, so so much. :'(
i appreciate them
more than almost any band ever
they're so fucking good
i once spent four hours in a bar in cortina in the dolomite mountains
desperately racking my brains, trying to remember the name 'rocket from the crypt' after my friend started humming 'on a rope' for no reason in particular. this is the first time i've thought of them since.
