Drive-through fast food

Okay, so it's 2008 and convenience is king, but I'm a little perplexed by the whole drive-through thing.

I can see why they'd appeal if you were a hard bitten Los Angeles homicide detective with an estranged wife and a drink problem, obviously you'd be a busy guy so fair enough.

But, I frequently see people using the drive-through who then park up in the customer parking bays and eat in their vehicles. So, you haven't saved any time seeing as you could have just eaten in the 'restaurant' (and I use that word in the loosest sense) and now your car smells of burgers.

It all seems a bit silly, like this thread.

means you dont have to

sit with the dregs of society

I quite like that though.......

it's like being an extra in a live action version of Eastenders.

does it give you a sense of being 'down with the common man'?

interesting triviality: fast food places in south america are generally frequented by upwardly mobile yuppie types, go figure

No, it gives me a sense of eating food that is 'bad' yet

tastes good amongst a crowd of 'local characters'.

:)

My stepdad took his grandmother to one once and she was horrified and said she'd never go back because they didn't have any knives or forks. <3 old posh people.

As an aside, how is a restaurant a restaurant if it *doesn't* have knives and forks?

You're less likely

to get accosted by nutters, like I did when I was in McD's in Brixton recently. He was proper scary too!

Well, that's Brixton for you.

I used to really really love the place, but I'm afraid the sane to nutter ratio is just too high for me to ever feel safe enough there. It's amazing though; they never seem to target the locals - they'll defend the place until they're blue in the face. It's like I have 'VISITOR' tattooed on my head or something.

Guilty as charged

But I drive an old banger anyway, so meh!

I went to au McDo last night at half 2 or so and the girl taking my order was hawttt.

Last one I was forced to go to

was on the Isle of Wight, not renowned for the inhabitants to ever do 'fast' and very very loosely 'food' (fine if it's good old fashioned english carnivore fayre - but vegetarianism hasn't quite penetrated the rural farming community) As for USA stylee Mac D's, it's so casual that even when empty, you have to park in a waiting area for 25minutes, BEFORE you are given your burger and fries.

Once received, you tend to just drive away as quickly as possible.

A couple of weeks ago

I had to walk through the Macdonalds drive through at about 3am with cars queueing up behind me.
I must have looked like right bloody crouton.

curb you enthusiasm suggests this

but if you find yourself in Harringay at 3am, try it out

Who's gay?

your mum

Woah

I always wondered why she ran off with the housemaid :(

it is stupid.

but people who frequent such places aren't the sharpest tools in the shed generally.

There's nothing wrong

with a bit of fast food when you're drunk though.

but yup, in general you're right

nah, when i'm drunk is the main time i'd eat it.

last night i had a row in burger king actually.
there's a place near my tube stop that does falafel, which i think is my favourite drunken food at the moment. mmmmmm.

falafel

is the win

Just Falafs

Badum tisch!

think about it

you can get and eat a whole meal without having to move your legs. it's like fat people heaven.

i have a local

goddamn great falafel & lamb shwarma. it looks like no one lives there... looks well dodgy... but got great olives & pomegranate molasses from there.

falafel...for those times you want a bit of grease, but not feel too bad about it.

GUILTY

I went through a drive-thru last month, as a pedestrian. Not to be #random# but cos Mac Ds was closed and we were hungry.

hmmmm

for someone to order, wait for their meal and then drive and park must at least five minutes.
people.

better than trainstopping i guess.

Haven't they started drive-thru Starbucks?

As if we need any more of those anyway.
