#57: thecocknbullkid

By Rebecca Nicholson

We fell a little bit in love with thecocknbullkid ("one word with no apostrophes please" - her words) when we saw that she has the video for Eternal's Stay on her MySpace. Say what you like about their subsequent output, but for a while there, Eternal were London's En Vogue. Hackney's thecocknbullkid, aka Anita Blay, could be onto something even better. Her debut single, On My Own, is out in July and has attracted Morrissey-via-Kelis comparisons - not bad for a first-timer. Chuck in some streaming demos with an MIA (There's A Mother In Our Bed) or Timbaland (Attention) flavour, and, of course, some genuine originality and verve and flair, and we are most certainly in. Here's On My Own, live:

So its not just me then...

I won't hear a bad word said against Eternal's first album...Stay, Just A Step From Heaven, Save Our Love. Classic New Jill Swing, if not as good as Jade's Don't Walk Away
