none of those bands are technically very good. especially the slits, the raincoats and pussy galore.

and yet i fucking love them. all the good bands couldn't play/sing.

I don't know, vocals are pretty good, not amazing though. I allways thought the guitar playing was pretty skillfull, one of the first bands to use guitars more percussively than melodically.... meh... either way they rule :P

i did think about leaving them off, but ultimately it's still all very lo-fi. they ARE a punk band and the songs do sound like they could fall apart at any minute.

suicide! mbv! yay. as for ramones, i like them much, but really, i never need to listen to more than two, perhaps three songs. because let's face it, it's all one song - turned upside down, turned sideways, squinting, frowning, grinning - it's still the same gurning, bleary-eyed face.

though i really wouldn't call mbv inept on any level. kevin shields is a goddamn prodigy. [i prefer the ep with you made me realise/slow etc on it to loveless, mind... loveless is an astonishment, but the songs on that ep are deliciously rude and enticing and rhythm-laden, while still being as perverse as other mbv stuff].

Just remind yourself that some junkie just sold his best stuff for a fix. I remember selling a beloved Bowie boot for $2. It's OK. He needs the dope and someone else is getting a deal.

How MBV's Isn't Anything sits all shiny and new at Tower for only $8, on the other hand, is a mystery. *shrugs*

Joy Division are probably my favourite band at the moment and the vocals aren't too impressive in that... the rest of it is though.

I don't think you can class MBV as being technically inept, unless you're sole definition of technicality is being able to wank a guitar like Joe Satriani. Kevin Shields was a technically brilliant guitarist in that he managed to create sounds that no one's been able to repliacte since.

Yamatsuka Eye from the Boredoms is the best screamer/gargler i've ever heard. But yes.

I love the drumming of Scout Niblett. It sounds like it could all just grind to a halt at any second.

wow those are pretty much my favourite bands exactly aswell. I like the shitness.

But look at The Slits...they used samples of spoons falling, and matches being lit as percussion to a reggae/dub beat...i think that's incredible...
