Down I Go: Tyrant

I picked this up last night and unsurprisingly, found it to be so heavy, so confident and deftly arranged that I thought I was listening to a lecture from Jesus Hisself providing me with twelve stark warnings that democide is not the way to put yourself at his daddy's right hand.

More later when I've wiped this stupid fucking grin off my face.

  • I'm off to see these in Stoke on monday...

I'll probably buy this. If it's anywhere near as good as Disastercore, it will have winner written all over it.

    • Just as an aside

It shits all over disastercore. No two ways about it...

  • :D

    "GLORY TO STALIN THE GREAT!"

Giving it another listen at the mo. Love the trumpets on 'King Henry VIII.'

    Incredible band.

  • Kind, kind words!

    I'm glad you're enjoying it.

  • I'm going to the album launch party in King's Cross

on the 2nd of June yeah!

    • That Night's Going to Go OFF!

And we'll have loads of cheap t shirts and stuff too. It'll be fun.

      • ...

Will you have a copy of the lyrics so I can stop imagining what each song might be about?

        • If you find a copy of the lyrics

Please give it to me. I'd love to know what I'm supposed to be yelling...

  • .

I'm still waiting for this to come, but looking forward to hearing it!

  • I can't wait to receive this..

I want to listen to it loud and through headphones.

  • I am excitedly waiting for my copy of this

This is going to be awesome.

    • Wow!

I wish I could afford to like Down I Go! Stupid Undergroove. Stupid £8.00 including postage. Sod your stupid album.

      • Perhaps you could afford to go without some luxuries...

        like eating.

        • I'm already doing that.

I'd give up oxygen if it'd save me enough money to buy Down I Go's new album. Looks like I'll just have to go to the launch night and offer to suck them all off!

          • If none of us are up for that

We'll probably do you a record for as cheap as poss.

            • why

would you not be up for that? sounds like a hoot!

  • I've only listened to this a couple of times

but already I think it's going to become a firm favourite. Some notes, and a question:

    - "Ceaucescu" is the catchiest song about food shortages I've ever heard
    - I second the desire for lyrics, and the trumpet love
    - The jazz bit at the end of "Idi Amin" is a moment of demented brilliance that actually made me laugh out loud
    - why is "King Herod" not on there?

    • :(

      Pete didn't answer my question.

      • Here's your answer:

Hopefully, that song will never see the light of day on a commercial release!:)

        • Aww

          I don't see why not. It's a stone-cold pop classic.

          Looking forward to Monday. REALLY.

  • I thought I'd bump this rather than start a new thread..

Saw DiG in Stoke last night. Really enjoyable, even if it was sparsely attended. I thought Take a Worm For A Walk Week were ridiculously entertaining as well.

    • was the stoke gig at the glebe?

most gigs by bands from out of town seem to be a bit dead there, unfortunately.

      • Yeah it was...

Can't have been anymore than about 15 paying customers.

I've been three or four times in the last year or so, and it's been dead every time. Shame really.

        • It's good of you

          to estimate at 15!

      • ...

My band played in Stoke a good few years ago (at the something hotel, I can't remember). Literally no-one came. The look of utter dejection on the 'promoter's face was priceless.

Still, it was probably one of the best gigs I've ever been to. Noise got brought.

  • harrah!

    seeing them tonight :D
with vessels :D and take a worm for a walk week :D fucking hell, way too excited.

    • Vessels stole this

      It was so utterly unbelievable!

      They blew me right away...

      • they were ace (shame i had to make a mad dash to the loo during the last song)

but then again, so were you guys. i don't think i've laughed that much in ages. poor old alan.

take a worm for a walk week made me feel dirty. it was fun :D

    • I have a feeling this is something

      I need to hear.

      • yes! you do

one of my fav bands. innit. one of them is in johnny truant. (a unique selling point?)

  • This album is awesome!

It has ripped my face off. And is amazing. I also realised yesterday that Marek is a mate of a mate. Not having seen you live recently, does he still play the bass upside down?

    • Very much so

He made a special one especially.

  • CLEMENCY DENIED

The gig is tonight. I am excited. Yes.

  • This is VERY NEARLY my album of the year thus far.

Think Charlottefield's album takes a bit to beat.

    • I need to get me a copy of that

      Tonight was great fun!!

      • it certainly was

Didn't get a chance to say hi, but it was a great gig, and worth it for Alan's face at the end of "Saparmurat Niyazov" - I think it's the first time I've seen him look like he's enjoying being on stage. And so he should.

        • it was really good

was also the first gig I have been at in a long time where I couldn't really see anything on the stage. It was a novel experience and I imagine it must be annoying if you're a perma-midget.
Does the Cross Kings have a tiny stage or are DIG just a diminuitive band?

          • I don't know if they're

diminutive but they're certainly very very silly.

            • Very.

We decided to take to the floor rather than be all squashed up on the stage.

We're not much to look at either...

      • Superb gig.

Thanks for playing Gigantic! Titanic! It was so, so awesome. Also, that was possibly the best version of Saparmurat Niyazov ever. :D

  • A couple of you expressed an interest in lyrics.

    • Excellent.

I'll print them out so I can sing along at home. I'm not even kidding.

I was listening to the album again this morning - and then when it finished and I switched over to Radio 4, Melvyn Bragg was hosting a discussion about agriculture and genetics under Stalin. Synchronicity, or something.

      • There's some serious universal truths gwarnin

Also if you print them lyrics out, you're a loser... ;)

    • :D

      brilliant! Cheers for this.

    • Awesome gig...

...awesome album, awesome hairstyles, especially Alan. That cat just don't give a fuck.

      I really enjoyed Bats too.

      • Hairstyle?

        Alan?

        • You know

          what I mean..."what's left".

  • just a BUMP to say

this album still slays. Best thing I've heard all year - nothing will top this.

"HOW MUCH LAND WILL YOU OCCUPY, BEFORE YOU ARE SATISFIED?!"

  • You have converted me

I decided to go find this album and its a beauty. I have been lacking in heavy music for a while and this is wicked.

    • Wicked.

Glad you guys like it and that...
