The LA Scene at the moment

With the huge success of No Age and with help from DiS, it's made people aware of Mika Miko, Abe Vigoda and Health (and the other bands that are playing around Downtown LA at the moment). It seems to me that these bands will all be pretty big by the end of the year. What im wondering is if this is an exciting thing going on or is it something we've seen before.

Exciting thing at the moment or not?

I'm not sure what you mean

when you say "is it something we've seen before", but even if it is I don't see why that precludes it from being massively exciting.

Myself and Samuel Strang have been busy devouring this brilliant noisy muck since No Age were over post-Wives last year. Abe Vigoda's record is the one we're waiting for now. Apparently U!TR are looking to bring them over in the autumn.

But yeah, in answer to your question - exciting, definitely.

LA?

As in Little'ampton?
S'always happening on the South Coast innit.

check out Talbot Tagora

they're pretty awsome. I very much into that scene as well right now

Smell bands

Yeah, although Mae Shi and HEALTH and Abe Vigoda are good, No Age is clearly the top of that class.

But yeah, finally those of us in LA have something to cheer about - Icarus Line, Silversun Pickups etc. cos before LA was a wasteland of shitty bands like Offspring.

But really the best thing about the LA scene is Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan, obv.

Its one of

the few 'scenes', 'movements' or what ever that has genuinely had me excited for a long time.

Apart from nu rave of course

No age live were one of the best things I've seen. An Abe Vigoda/Mika Miko double headlining tour would be pretty bad ass! Bring it on.

out of all the bands...

im most excited about is Abe Vigoda, I have Kid City and thats great, but this new album will be a fuckin class LP.

yup

Abe Vigoda are pretty damn good, are they playing over here soon then?

I've been in

LA for 2 years, and this is definately the most exciting time for music for me.

I thouroughly enjoyed the SSPU's album, and of course No Age.

I'm looking foward to getting out to see some more good bands, as it seems to me its been a long time coming.

i live in l.a.

and would gladly switch to london. i hate the hipsters.
the only interesting thing happening here is that foals is playing this sat.

Just as

many hipsters in London though.

London gets depressing after a while. At least the sun is out (most of the time) in LA.

London is hipster hell

at least LA has hipsters and ace bands... well when they aint playing over here that is.

The Mae Shi and BARR are ace too.

I really like all these bands and find them pretty damn exciting.

Also from LA but nothing to do with this scene is Flying Lotus he is awsome.

Yeah, these bands are alright,

but we're a LONG way off the glory days of Motley Crue, Warrant, Dokken, Quiet Riot, W.A.S.P and LA Guns.

And I mean a LONG way off.

My very first girlfriend (we were ...12??)

married some dude from LA Guns. How's that for useless trivia? :)

Mika Miko

are by far my favourite out of the current crop, they're brilliant. No love for 400 Blows? They were great, really brattish in a good way. Incredible film, too.

I havent heard 400 Blows

I will ave to check them out.

Angels Trumpets & Devil's Trombone

is the record I have. Its good stuff, I saw them when they toured with Year Future and The Locust a few years ago and they were really good.

i saw

400 blows support the Bronx in Portsmouth, they were pretty good, the singer was dressed in full USA cop uniform with truncheon to boot!

Yeah!

It was like a Raymond Pettibon drawing made flesh!
