good bands splitting

i'm not happy, this year has seen the demise of some extremely good bands.

mclusky - dead
the unicorns - dead
q and not u - dead
hot snakes - dead
the red light sting - dead

they're being replaced by over-hyped and ovrplayed nme bands. my oh my.

Mclusky could spawn two new good bands though. Some of The Unicorns are already doing something else and aren't the Hot Snakes splitting up cos Drive Like Jehu reforming?

I missed seeing Hot Snakes a couple of months ago in edinbugh, for shame!

however, if that means that DLJ are reforming, it = yay

The Wayne Hussey & Craig Adams debacle when the Sisters of Mercy split in 1986 made me cry. I was only 15/16!

They reformed, but it was never the same was it?

didn't realise tha drive like jehu were reforming. thats great news, but i'm still going to miss hot snakes.

i also heard that the unicorns were starting some kind of hip hop band.

I like it when bands split in a way. It means that they are finished, and finishing is every bit as important as starting. It makes something complete.

I agree with that. Both the Pixies and Pavement split at the right time to leave an untouchable legacy. Only hope that the now reformed Pixies don't spoil it all by making a record but they undoubtedly will & go & fucking ruin the legacy. Wait for the Pavement reunion circa 2010....Malkmus will need the dosh. At least they won't make another record.

Yeah, reunions suck. Sometimes it is better when bands split.

Having said that, if rilo kiley or idlewild ever split up I will probably cry or go into mourning. There had better be some kind of Take-That-split type phoneline to call...

I agree. Idlewilds last offering was pretty mediocre. Hardly an innovotive band these days.

What about The Delgados splitting eh? One of the best bands of the last 10 years with 5 excellent albums. The only good to come from it is that Malcolm Middleton has picked up the remnants for his latest project.

The Delgados had some very good albums.
Sadly it could'nt be said of their last offfering.
Perhaps it was really time to call it a day.

actually, yeah, part of me does want idlewild to split. Before they do too much more damage. Although, after seeing them live, the album isnt as bad as i'd initially thought. Just not as good as the others.

I think it's just a first love, cant let go, type thing, that would make me cry if they split. It'd make me a stronger, better person in the long run but it'd hurt. you know?

I think we should definitely add The Edmund Fitzgerald to that list, personally.

I was sad to see the robot vs. go, but I doubt many had heard of them! :-D
