I'll try a different tack, seen as though No one likes/know any peers o Ninja High Schools. Artists and songs welcomed.
Stuff I'm listening too at the moment:
Busdriver
Cadence Weapon
Tonedeff
gravediggaz
Die Fantastischen Vier
Saul Williams
The Big Dada label
Cool Kids
and Mos Def - Black on Both Sides
3 feet high and rising
De La Soul... I assume you've heard it, but its one of the best out there.
Can't go wrong with Public Enemy either.... their seminal 'it takes a nation of millions to hold us back' is being performed in its entirety at atp at the moment.
I think the bets hip hop album EVER is 'midnight marauders' by a tribe called quest.... that is fantastic, bit jazzy, good fun, positive, dark, its got everything you want from hip hop
oh and JUNGLE BROTHERS
the two albums 'straight out the jungle' and 'done by the forces of nature' are incredible hip hop meets house athons. Supposedly... I think the house element is always a bit overstated but the albums are HURRAH good.
straight out the jungle
http://youtube.com/watch?v=K0wVNPWWZIw
'its like a jungle sometimes
makes me wonder how i keep from goin' under...'

Some good stuff recommended here a few days ago:
http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/3351931
I'm going through a big Sage Francis phase myself at the mo. You should also check out Aesop Rock, Mr Lif, Atmosphere, El-P, Passage, Viktor Vaughn, Antipop Consortium, Beans, Why?, Restiform Bodies...
i'm never
sure whether to classify why? as hip-hop, but they are freakin awesome, just acquired the "Alopecia Demos" album, it's interesting to see how it seems it's always the vocal melody that come first over some quite sparse beats, and haven't found anything by El-P that really grabs me yet. Aesop Rock yes, and I'll check out the others
The Roots
Buck 65
Common
Roots Manuva
Jurrasic 5
Pharoahe Monch
K'naan
Ghostface
Jay Electronica
All the old legends are still cool- y'know, PE, De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, Run-DMC
No reason not to listen to a bit of old skool Dre and Snoop. It is nuthin but a G thing after all...
NWA
a dream line-up
would include
busdriver
buck 65
cadence weapon
Here you are.
1) Rhyme Like A Nut - Gift of the Gab
2) Electric Relaxation - A Tribe Called Quest
3) Hard Knock Life - Jay z
good work on the gravediggaz
maybe a bit of Gza, and Redman & Method Man (Blackout).
I'm not really a fan of indie friendly hip hop
Pete Rock
Mecca and The Soul Brother
...
Lowkey - Key To The Underground Volume 2
Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
Talib Kweli - Reflection Eternal
Immortal Technique - Revolutionary Vol 1 & 2
Aesop Rock - None shall pass
Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein
Kidz in Da Hall
Louis Slipperz 10 pound bag (any, but the white covered one is the best)
x
Naj one
Amir Suliaiman
prince po
Iam
None of the other artists sound like ninja high school...was that some kind of joke? maybe mc lars?
i posted a thread
asking people to recommend [surprised i got away with such a ludicrous spelling mistake in the title] me some spazz-hop [like ninja high school, put down that science pole, best fwends and hawnay troof] but i got no replies....but I'm enjoying checking out new [to me] hip-hop
Masta Ace
Organized Konfusion (Pharoahe Monch's old group)
any of the mid-90s Boot Camp Click stuff (Black Moon, Heltah Skeltah, Smif-N-Wessun, OGC)
A Tribe Called Quest
Company Flow
Charizma & Peanut Butter Wolf
Pete Rock & CL Smooth
Binary Star
and of course, a decent knowledge of Wu-Tang and its offshoots is essential for any hip-hop head. Should be plenty there to keep you going, anyway.
I ordered Big Shots today
can't wait for it to arrive
Best hiphop albums of the last few years
Dangerdoom - The Mouse and The Mask
Lil' Wayne - Da Drought 3
Non-Prophets - Hope
Viktor Vaughn (MF Doom)'s Vaudeville Villain has grabbed me by the short and curlies right now
Get that.
And Operation Doomsday by MF Doom.
I'd also recommend Cannibal Ox, off Def Jux.
Dalek are super good, get Absence pronto.
Otherwise:
Nas - Illmatic
Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt & The Blueprint
Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
GZA/Genius - Liquid Swords
Wu Tang Clan - Enter the Wu Tang (36 Chambers) & The W.
Mos Def - Black on Both Sides & The New Danger
Oh and I second El-P/Company Flow/A Tribe Called Quest recommendations
Oh and get some Gangstarr
Anything with
Dan the Automator behind it, like Dr Octagonecologyst (with Kool Keith), Deltron 3030 (with Del the Funky Homosapien and Kid Koala) and the Handsome Boy Modelling School records.
Oh and Madvillain, anything with Doom in it is good in my books... Now if only Doom and Automator would do a collaboration, that'd be awesome. :)
Madvillain (obviously)
blackalicious
Grandmaster Flash
...
Plenty of good stuff already suggested
I'd also add:
Epmd - Strictly Business
Dr Dre - 2001
Kool Keith - Thee Undertakerz
Geto Boys - We Can't Be Stopped
Poject Polaroid - Project Polaroid
Re Up Gang - We Got It For Cheap Vol. 3
Slick Rick - the Adventures Of Slick Rick
Ludacris - LUDACRIS!!
Ol' Dirty Bastard - Nigga Please
Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury
Gang Starr - Step In The Arena
UGK - Underground Kingz
Lil' Wayne - Da Drought 3 (already suggested but worth suggesting again)
Please stop recommending Why?. Its not hip hop, and its also total shit.
If this doesn't make you smile
I hate you

the heavy set lady shaking her stuff
The Roots
Phrenology maybe?
Ohmega Watts
And you familiar with Kail? He's just signed to Big Dada.
Also, KEXP have a hip hop show every Sunday
which has some really great stuff on it. Unfortunately, I'm an idiot, so I never remember to write down artist names :(
hiphiphophop
Subtle 'For Hero: For Fool'
The Roots (any early albums)
Border Crossing
cLOUDDEAD
