DiS is just a bit excited to hear news that Thomas Bangaleter and Guy-Manuel de Homen-Christo, better known as Daft Punk, are in their Paris studio, working on a new record.

In an interview with In The Mix magazine, Pedro Winter, revealed the band "are in a studio in Paris at the moment" when asked if they were working on a new record.

Pedro, is the owner of Ed Banger (home to Justice, Sebastian and Uffie) and has been Daft Punk's manager for twelve year. However he also revealed he has recently stepped down as their manager to focus on his own career as Busy P, as well as his hugely successful and influential label. There's clearly no bad blood because he continued "I can't wait to listen to their new stuff!

Don't get too excited, that was about all he said. There’s no album name or release date and he continued "They are slow, you know. They are taking their time, and they have a right (to take their time)."

Since the news, the web has been ablaze with excitement and a small amount of contemplation whether they might 'do a Radiohead'. Looking into our crystal ball, we suspect they'll do something five times more exciting, like making the album available via bluetooth at some huge show or making it available for free but mixed into one long mp3 featuring their favourite new acts. Or maybe they'll keep it old skool and just give it to all the members of their award winning but now seemingly defunct Daft Club?

DiScuss: Most influential band since Nirvana? Where to start with Daft Punk?

Cool...

Someone's working late in the office ;)

This is good news

Daft Punk are legends!

I look forward to this Daft Punk releases are always an event they are pretty special.

I wouldn't mind hearing a Daft Punk DJ mix do they exist?

I think they will whip out some suprises and maybe bring in some rapping its the only thing I can think of right now that they aint tryed before.

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

fuck me this is the best news i've heard in a while.

Discovery

First album I ever brought. I enjoyed it for a while, then never really listened to it again after overplaying it.
Fast forward a few years later, my friends invite me to the o2 festival. Daft Punk were fucking amazing. One of the best live acts I've ever seen and I'm not even in to that kind of thing!

discovery

discovery is such a good record. i used to listen to it before every night out without fail (until bright like neon love by cut copy took its place)

ps. that's a really cool first album! mine was the best of the bangles

who's the nirvanas?

never heard of em

Not sure

But I think they're 'Emu' or something. I read about it in the Daily Mail.

AMAZING SCENES!

:D

the last album

was one of the worst albums i've ever heard. EVER.

Out 2010 then

given their track record.

Human After All was an atrocity.

No more of that please.

Nahhh

It was pretty shit ESPECIALLY when you compare it to either of the previous two

I liked it

because its in a diffrent direction to the other two. Its full of in your face electro sounds and phat noises, I loved that they decided to go all robotic and strip some cheese away. Show the Ed Banger lot what massive synth sounds ya can get hehe

^^this

Ahh, but now we've heard the Alive 2007

tour tracks, we now understand what 'Human After All' was for. Mashing up with DP classics for even more fantasticness!

Although frankly, nothing beats their Around the World/Harder Better Faster Stronger mashup.

Human After All

Give it another listen. It was *way* ahead of its time.

Good article Sean

Good to hear some outright enthusiasm from DIS about one of my fave acts!!

jimi - I've got a copy of their Radio 1 essential mix from a few years back (2nd March 1997). I can probably upload a copy somewhere if you want. It's 2 hours of aceness!!

I'm really not sure if any other DJ mix's are available? I've been searching for years.

Daft Punk @ Fabric Novembe 1999.
BEST. NIGHT. EVER!

that would be ace

if you could link me up :)

cheers

I acctualy just found it with google skills ;)

ace! the track list looks well good. I shall be spinning this for quite a bit of the weekend I feel.

Homework and Discovery are both classics

Human After All was ok in parts but disapointing compared to their standards. 100% Looking forward to this though. ^_^

Glad you found it,

Enjoy!!

swwweeeeeet!

this is the most exciting thing i've heard in a while...

homework

all the way. Much more (see: arguably more) influential than anything Nirvana did.

And Human After All was really good, just not in the same league as Homework.

Discovery was also great, but again not in the same league as Homework, and is way over hyped.

As they are an amazing live act (so we all hear) was their live album any good?

People that use the term

'overhyped' without understanding its true meaning and as an alternative to "i don't see why people like generic album one as much as generic album two" really annoy me.

So, in your opinion Homework outclasses Discovery? fair enough - but many Daft Punk enthusiasts will disagree.

but i thought

it was clear that myself (and everyone else here) voices their opinion.

As I perceive it,

Homework is Daft Punk's best album.

Discovery (also good) is (in my opinion) unfairly credited by many to be their best though, and thus from my perspective, is given too much attention.

Quite simple really. No one claims to have the gift of complete objectivity.

I wasn't critising your opinion,

that's the last thing i want to be perceived to be doing. I'm just getting a little aggravated by the amount of people i've seen classing records as 'overrated' when the last dozen or so articles i've read on Discovery have disregarded it completely.

I just caught an inconsiderate review on Rate Your Music describing an unreleased, critically ignored record as 'overrated'. You just caught me at a bad time :(

apologies then

swings and roundabouts isnt it. Just different passions I guess. Everyone has a band or album that they love and it seems that everyone else hates them i think, and it can be quite grinding.

No worries

*critisising

Doesn't matter

Even if you think Discovery is better, it wasn't a game-changer. Homework changed everything. Really. The impact was huge. If they had died in the 1990s, they'd be bigger than Nirvana after Homework. I thought Nirvana was overrated anyway.

Woohoo!

This is the best news I've had all day. I'm really looking forward to their new album and will definitely make an effort to see them live if they tour for this album. Alive is awesome!
