I only want hard rock and heavy metal and generally painful sounding stuff not made by kids in skinny jeans in this thread.
What's been released this year? What's coming out?
I'll start off by recommending Paralyzed by Witch and Meanderthal by Torche.
The former is heavy rock veering into sabbath territory, with Jr Mascis on shred duty. It rocks from start to finish with fuzz and groove.
The second is an album made of 'stonerpop' songs. So heavy riffs and pounding drums and howling vocals, but all <6 minutes and mostly <4 minutes. It gets the adrenaline flowing.

The New Cult Of Luna
album is brilliant, Eternal Kingdom... along the lines of isis, old man gloom etc.. im sure you know anyways.. check it out! its not as good as their last one (somewhere along the highway - which is one of the best albums of its type ever imo) but its still really good. they are playing with devil sold his soul at the start of july too - what a gig!
I've never actually listened to them
Which is odd, as I like all their contemporaries. Maybe this is my cue to check them out.
sorry but in my opinion...
cult of luna are getting more and more generic on record, and to be honest they were pretty generic to start with. Plus they are a terrible live act.
For a better band of that type try someone like amenra.
really?
wow, i would never say that about them, but fair enough. i dont really like amenra. SATH is simply immense though, theres so many beautiful subtleties in it and so much thought put into it that you dont really notice at first. the new one isnt as good though, i admit that. never seen them live though so you may be right there. i hope not!
well, they were terrible within the context of that gig
they were supported by blueneck and rest, essentially two bands that play the same doom rock. So essentially it was exhausting to pay attention to the same drawn out stuff for pretty much three hours. Boring? just a bit.
They seem to have support bands like this all the time too, so I cant imagine the experience being too different. Well unless, of course, you LOVE cult of luna of course
...
The new Harvey Milk has leaked. It's less ZZ Top than The Pleaser so far, more SLUDGE. Good stuff.
The Asva album is supposed to be good too, although I haven't had a chance to check it yet.
I really liked the new Boris record
I'm quite interested to see what Josh Graham comes up with in his new band "A Storm Of Light". I'm not sure if they fall into the skinny jeans category but the Number Twelve Looks Like You's new record could be worth a listen.
MESHUGGAHHHH!
Boris
Nadja (less rockin, but still mint)
Mínus (rockin, but not painful)
Tortuga (plain fucking awesome)
ooooh
forgot about minus and tortuga
I'm a little disappointed by the Boris record. It feels a little stale.
The Meshuggah album
is well worth picking up, I sometimes find it difficult to listen through in one sitting though - it doesn't really give you a chance to breathe.
The new Ufomammut album is great too, so fucking heavy.
I love that Torche album
I'm not very up on heavy stuff right now so I wait with interest what people sugest.
I'm pretty sure that J doesn't play guitar in Witch
really doesn't sound like him anyway
The Torche album is indeed cracking
I believe he actually drums for Witch
so there you go.
you mosher idiots have your own site now!
;)
I saw these two a few months back
Notorious Hi-Fi Killers- rock, abit like White Hills (who are worth checking out as well)
Truck Driver Junior- angry Melvinsy stuff with Isisey instrumental bits.
I 2nd theUfomammut recommendation
.
fuck, this is it? No hard rock this year?
What did we miss. There has to be serious new hard rock lurking around somewhere?

Down I Go - "Tyrant"
VERY close to album of the year for me so far. Seems to fit the requirements in your original post.

Incredible album.
