Hot on the heels of word that I Was A Cub Scout are calling it quits comes this little slice of similarly themed news: Reuben are going on an indefinite hiatus.
A message from management, on MySpace and their official site, reads:
I regret to announce that Reuben are unable to play their slot on the 2000 Trees Festival in July, but they would still urge people to go anyway - it should be a great weekend. They are very sorry to disappoint fans who have already bought tickets, as you can imagine Reuben hate cancelling shows. The band are all in good health but the culmination of several pressures just makes it impossible for Jamie to go ahead with it.
The band are not planning any more gigs or releases for the foreseeable future - I should make it clear that the band members are all on amicable terms and are supportive of the need to call a halt.
This seems like a good time to thank everyone who has helped and encouraged Reuben along the way; some of you have been there from the start, others from last week, some are within the music industry, others are simply fans - it doesn't matter which, you are all important and have given great strength to all concerned.
Thank you so much.
Good times, Reuben:

what
nooooooooooo. But expected. Was only a matter of time
i love this video so much
SORRY ABOUT ALL THAT NAILED TO A CROSS BUSINESS!
my 15 year old self
is crying
Lets stop hanging out?
.
A missed headline opportunity if there ever was one
But I am quite sad about this.
Yes, sorry Matt, I was a closet Reuben fan.
The rest of my music taste makes up for it though, I hope.
I'm amazed they lasted this long
Given their career has basically been running into a brick wall over and over again. I admire their perserverance
I think Jamie has always lacked
a sense of perspective as to the true nature of "success". It's mentally knackering when you're constantly feeling the pressure of having not become superstars, but such pressures are often self-imposed. Reuben produced a fine body of work and had a good number of fans (myself included) who thought they were bloody wonderful. They'll be a reference point for a lot of bands for a long while yet; they've probably inspired a lot more people than they actually realise. And they wrote arguably the greatest Christmas song of the last 20 years, and certainly had the best Christmas video ever.
But I know all too well that when you're stuck in the back of a van living on crisps half the time and chained to a shit job in your shit town the rest of the time, it can be hard to retain any sense of the perspective you need to stay sane. You feel like you've gone nowhere, excruciatingly slowly, forever. While your debts get bigger and bigger.
I wish Jamie, Jon and Guy all the best, and I genuinely hope they'll be back before too long. They are, after all, ace.
^ this
Major disappointment but you can't blame the guys.
I do hope they have a rest and get their fire back.
I praying for a comeback in 2010
I heart Reuben, last album was amazing.
Down with big nasty labels!
how sad
they were a lovely band. racecar is one of the soundtracks for two years of my life. i think a lot of people will be secretly crying at this news.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
:(
I'm really sad about this
Loved them since I was about 15. One of the first bands I truly loved. Must have seen them about 10 times.
You could have seen it coming though, they didn't really appear to be getting anywhere commercially, and it must be pretty soul-destroying to put your life into something and get nothing much back. I wasn't really a fan of the last album, but the first two helped to soundtrack my teenage years.
They seem ridiculously nice guys though, hope we see them again musically in some guise or another.
This is the longest
I've read down a DiS comments thread without someone making a negative comment. This pleases me.
Cheerio Reuben, you fucking ruled.
they were shit though werent they? ;)
joking!
shame
really good band. my tastes have changed since racecar came out, thus i haven't picked up the latest album. but oh to be 16 again, rocking out to scared of the police or stuck in my throat.
PIRACY!
Good luck in the future, brilliant band, great live
saw them supporting Billy Talent, 3 great albums, will be missed
its a shame
genuine quality bands like this go under whilst toss like Enter Shikari exist
Rubbish rubbish news
:(
First time I saw them was 4 years ago supporting Biffy, I went straight out and bought their album the next day, I have never ever done that before (or again).
A bit more news about it here:

rubbish!
reuben were my favourite british band. very sad :(
that video and tune
is amazing!
if it wasn't for this band
i would never have met the person I'm moving in with this summer, or had a whole bunch of different adventures across the country, and they were my favourite band right through university.
It's a shame that there was always a sense around them that they never quite made it. I saw them go from supporting Hell is for Heroes in a half empty room in 2002 to headlining the Meanfiddler/LA2 when they shot the DVD.
I've seen crowds in Manchester, Glasgow, Newcastle and London go from a small hardcore to big audiences who screamed every word for the entire set.
I think they were a lot more successful than they ever really realised, and touched a lot of people who'll really miss them.
I'm punching myself in the face
This sucks.
the vocalist
has one of the best screams in...ever. as is shown above.
shit news
remember the days seeing 'em at the westy in aldershot. been a fan since the pilot EP days.
boo... =(
This is so crap
I love Reuben. They have at least nine of my top 25 most played songs. Cities on fire, going home in an ambulance, lets stop hanging out, song for saturday (relatively weak but still good) stuck in my throat (the best) freddy kreuger of course, some mothers do have em, blamethrower, dusk, i even liked boy as it keeps reminding me of the aspects of me that have compromised more than i ever wanted to. They were a band that i loved seeing where they were going. From an awesome debut album, they kept moving from the comfort zone and deploying massive riffs and choruses, whilst making genuinely interesting songs. And the drumming was awesome.
I hope this is temporary. Otherwise the best i can hope for is three amazing solo projects.
Sad news
I do hope this is just a temporary hiatus for a year or so and that they'll be back again.
'Every Time A Teenager Listens To Drum & Bass A Rockstar Dies' is an awesome song with an even more awesome title.
This is a shame
I'm suprised they never recieved the commercial success they deserve, especially given all their hard work.
