M.I.A. uses MTV money to make kids clever

MIA2

M.I.A. is to put her $50,000 fee for performing at last weekend's MTV Movie Awards towards the construction of schools in Africa.

She told onlookers at the ceremony: "They're giving me $100,000. Not bad, eh? I'm going to use it to build schools in Liberia. It costs $52,000 to build a school for 1,000."

So did she get paid 50k, or double that? Does it matter when it's going to a good cause? No, no it doesn't.

  • Words can't express

how much I love this gurl

  • ive really tried

but i just dont get whhy people go cray over mia....can someone please try and explain the attraction to me? Im not being nasty- i know loads of people who love it...but i can't see it and im wondering if there is a vital bit that im missing out on?

    • *crazy

      not cray.

    • £100,000

or dollars or whatever is pretty fuckin good rates for someone who still hasnt broken into the mainstream!!

    • Her music man,

it's all about her music. It makes me feel good, ya know? It's hard to describe how music makes you feel, but she's one of the few artists (yes, ARTISTS) who makes me feel great. Plus, she's obviously cool as a cucumber cocktail donating her fee to charidee.

  • Wow

A little behind the rest with this news piece, aren't we?

  • what?

    she got paid $100,000.

it costs $52,000 to build a school.

so she's possibly going to pay for two?

  • Fuck this...

im not MIA's biggest fan, i loved her first album when i was like 15, i think her second is okay at best, but this is a fucking cool thing to do. fuck you haters, get a life (or do a madonna and get an african child)

    • Erm...

      ...I don't see a single 'hater' above.

And I'm afraid that Madonna joke is extremely dated.
