Artists: Primal Scream

Veteran experimental-rockers Primal Scream - Mercury Winners before Dizzee Rascal could hold a fork, let alone a microphone - have put an exclusive track online to download for nowt.

'Urban Guerrilla', a cover of the Hawkwind original, can be yours, now, by clicking here.

This offer - a kinda "Hi, we're back" gesture we suppose - precedes the release of a new single and album. 'Can't Go Back' is released on July 14, its parent LP Beautiful Future following on July 21.

A DiS feature on the band - where topics include supermodels' place in modern music, the comeback of My Bloody Valentine and how Coldplay are an exception to any rules governing who should and who shouldn't 'make it' (sort of) - will appear very soon. Meantime, check the new single on MySpace.

Argh

what the hell has happend to them? The new single is SHIT!! Pah.

It sounds like

the same token rock song that they have done for every album they've released, like, ever. But assuming you like that kind of thing, it's free beer, I suppose.

And according to their MySpace, the new single has only been listened to 5,000 times. Yikes. It's not as bad as the crud that slopped out of Riot City Blues though..

Rubbish really.

When Gillespie needs inspiration for lyrics, do you reckon he just leaves his diary open at the same page where, aged 15, he scrawled "Fredom fightaz! Theirs the fukken bollox!" over a Che Guevara postcard in his own pus?

it's a cover version

Urban Guerilla is a cover of a Hawkwind song (as stated at the top) so therefore not Gillespies lyrics. At least he can read eh.
Apparently it's only going to be a B-side so best not judge the album on it.

the album

is better - XTRMNTR vs Screamadelica on first listen.

I still maintain

that the only decent thing Bobby Gillespie ever did was play the drums for The Jesus And Mary Chain

I think you'll find

he's also done some rather decent drugs.

Its frustrating

cos when they want to be they can be sooo good. 'Xtrmntr', 'Vanishing Point' etc.

Sonic Flower Groove

is their best album IMO and Velocity Girl their best song. Them were the days...

getting on a bit

to be fair they're getting pretty old and they've made three great albums screamadelica, vanishing point and xtrmntr plus some great ep's nixie narco etc and some great single moments in cry myself blind, jailbird, a few off of riot city blues and the one before it. At times they have also been a phonomenal band, the xtrmntr tour and glastonbury 2003 spring to mind.

I'd love it if the new album was a corker but i certainly wont be too concerned if its not.

^^^ This

Very balanced. They're my favourite band so I always try and bite my tongue and stay out of these discussions on DIS. But Transmission has actually made a very balanced and I would say un-arguable synopsis of the band.

I can understand some of the haters. But suggesting that Bobby's drumming is better than Dixie Narco ep (for example), or that Sonic Flower Groove is better that MBV Arkesta, is just plain Stoopid.

Ignore the slogans and dig deep, you will be rewarded.

Meltdown next week, Primal Scream and MC5. Lots of sex wee from me!

^^^ both these

3 absolute classic albums as mentioned. The rest is a mixture of great, good, annoying. The slaggings they get aren't justified imo but then we can't all like the same stuff can we.
Rev - I notice you pop up on here in defence of the Scream every so often, well done. (Albert aka johnnyboy from the other place we ramble in)

drumming in JAMC

I meant to type!
