Remember when we had Jim from Grinderman talking about this year's Latitude Festival, held on the weekend of July 17-20? Well here's funny man Bill Bailey answering the same questions!

Who are you most looking forward to seeing at this year's Latitude Festival, and why?
Elbow, Sigur Ros, Interpol, Phill Jupitus doing Porky the Poet, Mark Lamarr doing God's Jukebox, Rich Hall and John Hegley. Elbow because they are wonderful, Sigur Ros because I love the grandness, the huge sounds, the slow build... Interpol because they continue the spirit of guitar indie punk that I grew up on. Phill is doing poetry again, which is great; it's what he did before anything, his first love. Mark is playing records - what he loves - and Rich Hall is doing Otis, but also just stand-up. We've toured together, and it's always good to hear what he has to say. John Hegley is performing who was an early inspiration.

What aspect of Latitude interests you the most and why?
I love the mix of stuff, the great bands, and the fact there is a Poetry Arena... Good vibes all round.

What can people expect you to bring to the festival, and do you have anything special planned?
I will bring my Bouzouki-Saz Hybrid and I will act on the impulse of the crowd.

If you weren't doing this what would you be doing?
Holding up shells to my ear.

What is your favourite colour sheep?
Blue.

I hate this man

He's about as funny as cancer.

John Hegley on the other hand is brilliant. And I've met him twice.

^

wrong

Do you hate Bill Bailey

because you haven't met him twice?

Do you hate Bill Bailey

because you haven't met him twice?

totally wrong

hate?

bit of a strong word for someone you just "dont find funny"
i find bill bailey actually hilarious. never laughed so much as when i saw him live, met him afterwards and he seemed a really nice guy.

obviously i'd need to meet him again to confirm his brilliance compared to john hegley

butterfingers

You're quite careles, aren't you, always dropping names everywhere.

I met John Hegley when I was 13

and 17 at my school. Youth name dropping that.

I met Paris Hilton this one time too...

As do you

and a Tory to boot.

What a combo.

Bill Bailey is a zany, unfunny moron

Appeals to the kind of people who thought that the funniest kids at school were the fat, unpopular ones who sat in the corner saying "BADGER" to each other in a wacky voice in lieu of humour.

^

also wrong

Getting a bit confused

With The Mighty Boosh there, surely?

^ this

he's really intellligent

he's actually an incredible musician too... he has 'perfect pitch' or whatever its called. I don't really get the badger thing, none of his sketches are like that... most of them involve songs, which are generally hilarious parodies. And he was on black books, which is hilarious. I get the impression you haven't seen alot of Bill Bailey comedy.

true, although bill

does have huge love for badgers

we all do...

...we just don't know it yet.

majestic creatures...

aka

Agreed. Said "issues" probably include dicks the size of peanuts.

How did you find that out?

I just think he's incredibly unfunny. He annoys me senseless.

A great musician,

but as far as his 'abstract comedy' shtick goes, I find someone like Paul Merton infinitely funnier.

And please, please, wake up to Black Books. Dylan Moran's 'curmudgeonly pissed intellectual' character is an abomination, What's-Her-Face is much better in Green Wing, and Bill Bailey's 'lovely idiot' isn't funny either.

bernard black is never supposed to be an intellectual

i cant think of a single point in the series where's it suggested that he is. you're misreading the character rather fundamentally.

as to bill bailey, listen to his 'god, jesus and the holy spirit go into a bar' joke and aknowledge his genius. he's not simply an abstract comedian.

will people stop assessing him on the basis of panel shows!

What?

Have you even watched the show?

can't wait to see him. latitude is gonna be ace.

fun fact: he walks his dogs in my park, I pointed him out to my mum the other day and she said, "Oh, really? I see him every day, I just assumed he was some sort of tramp..."

Ravenscourt Park massiiiiiive!

I presume this is the park you're referring to, considering that's where I see him on a worryingly regular basis. His dog tried to slobber over my ankles this morning.

High five!

Ravenscourt Park ftw!

i saw him

at a derren brown show, sat in front of me looking quite dapper.

roll on latitude!

i cant stand

how he has to throw out 'random' stuff, which is always the unfunniest thing ever, he does it in this interview twice

If you weren't doing this what would you be doing?
Holding up shells to my ear.

What is your favourite colour sheep?
Blue.

he tries too hard and it just doesnt come off, he's shit
