Drowned in Sound

Anyone caught these bands over the last few weeks? Saw them both in Liverpool last night and thought Liars were amazing - wiped the floor with Deerhunter who were a load of overrated, boring cack (and I quite like Cryptograms). Where's all the hype come from for Deerhunter? Maddening shit.

Liars though...phwoar!

  • Liars were great

at Koko apart from a bad crowd.

    • yeah i was well impressed

hadn't properly heard them before but im intrigued to hear them on record now - ive been told drum's not dead would be right up my street.

      • Drum's Not Dead

Great for a start; that package includes a DVD of vids for every song on "DND" that Liars made with their own six hands. Get all Liars plus all Liars Singles which'll make a trusty niche in the old library. Too bad Deerhunter tanked on ya; I still look foward to possibly taking a Deerhunter gig one day- I have seen Liars twice though and both shows were classics.

  • .

did many people turn out for the show in liverpool?

    • Liverpool

was well busier than i expected. It was such a good gig though. Deerhunter were really dissapointing. But Liars were amazing, done my faves off Drums Not Dead to...And we met Angus afterwards, top bloke

  • Liars

were absolutely STUPIDLY brilliant last night in Liverpool. Great mix of songs including all the ace ones off DND. I thought Deerhunter were alright, though looked a bit knackered. Would've liked to see Brandon do an Atlas Sound set instead I reckon - some of the Deerhunter songs were a bit indistinguishable from each other. High Places are also worth a mention too, they were pretty fun.

It was encouragingly busy last night for a rainy midweek. Good venue too!

  • MANCHESTER

    tonight for me :)

    • Also

Real Talk who played at the top of the stairs after Liars were a beast last night in Liverpool. Then again, they're me mates so I would say that...shat all over Deerhunter though

    • yeh,

      me too. :DD

  • I'd love to see Liars again

Seen them three times and they truly get better and better and better live.

  • I was at the Liverpool gig as well,

I thought Deerhunter were awesome, was really impressed, just great songs, the singer did look ill though. Didn't know a lot about Liars before last night, but they were good. I reckon that venue is perfect for gigs.

    • yeah that venue is good

I hope it continues to thrive and doesnt get bought up by the Korova corporation...saw the guys' that run the place playing the bumper the other night with their band Dogshow. They were dead good.

  • yeah i was well impressed

at their london show. i really liked deerhunter at primavera but they didn't seem to get great sound at koko.

liars album is on its way to me now, yay!

  • .

Liars were incredible. Saw them a couple of years ago in Manchester after 'They Were Wrong...' came out and went away in a daze telling people that every other band should pack it in. If anything, last night was even better. When Adrian Brody chips in on the drumming they're unstoppable.

Quite enjoyed Deerhunter but kept waiting for exciting surges that never really arrived.

I'd echo the cheers for the venue: does anyone know what the deal is with it? Why isn't there more stuff on in there?

  • overall...

whilst the vocals in the deerhunter set (and high places) could've been alot louder, i thoroughly enjoyed their peformance at a less-than-mediocre venue in london.

i really don't understand it when people say they are over-hyped or boring - the sound they come out with at times is simply fascinating and their new stuff has so much more depth when seen live. they are a great band who i'd feel privileged to see at a smaller more intimate venue.

also, despite this being the 4th time i've seen liars in the past year or so, it was probably the best. the stuff from 'the were wrong...' is fantastic live and they know how to put on a show. clearly, immense percussion and charismatic frontman = win.

although i went to this gig primarily for high places and deerhunter, i'm more than happy that i saw liars pull off a good show.

i FUCKING hate koko though. soooooo much. if i never set foot in that place again, i'll die a happy man.

    end.

  • saw them at koko

liars were incredible. really amazing. yeah dead crowd.. but i guess they really don't care.

deerhunter were ok and disappointed me a bit.

    really enjoyed high places.

  • I am tipsy but here are my two penny's worth

went to the liverpool gig last night

    and

i was not overly overwhelmed by any of the three acts to be honest

in fact, Deerhunter have kind of lost their shine for me after that and Liars, while quite intense, were a bit too challenging/avant-garde for me, having only heard their debut beforehand.

High Places just sounded like Animal Collective with a dance beat and couldn't work their magic on us nonchalant topman mannequin types.... shame

Still, at £10 for a ticket it puts my complaints into some perspective. nice venue layout too.

  • do liars ever play

'this dust makes that mud' live?
even if its just the first 8 minutes. i love that song
