I love them all, so this is not a good - bad list:

Slow Riot > Skinny Fists > Yanqui U.X.O. > F#A#

i think i prefer skinny fists to slow riot

the bit "they dont sleep on the beach anymore.." i love to bits

Skinny fists

disc 2 specifically

its some guy they knew called Blaise Bailey Finnegan

who passed of iron maiden lyrics as his own.

This may sound like a fake alternative opinion but I think I prefer the first set fire to flames record to any godspeed ones, although this may just be because it is relatively undiscovered to me. But yeah, skinny fists has everthing, but F#A# is unbearably sad I dont think I could choose

Skinny Fists is my favourite

But all their stuff is essential. Zero Riot = best EP ever probably.

Slow Riot

I mean

Is it really that good?

I've heard a few people go totally gaga over it.

Yes

Yes it is. Moya is one of my favourite ever songs and BBF3 is great too. It's just under 30 minutes of goodness and it paves the way nicely for Skinny Fists

Cool cool

I might pick a copy up next week then.

Slow riot ftw

Moya is, as described, incredible. One of those moments where a single chord change makes your (pubic) hair stand on end.

Yanqui U.X.O is great..

..I don't have anything else of theirs though.

you sure pick em don't you?

godspeed, trail of dead..

What the wrong albums?

Yeah, sometimes but I do quite often find out before hand.

This reminds me Madonna by Trail of Dead should be there when I get home.

I always try to find out

i sometimes then go against what i've found out, but i hate to buy something by a band that's been recommended, be a bit 'meh' about it, and then be told 'yeah that album's a bit meh, but this one's great'.

I haven't got the money for it.

slow riot is my favourite

I don't think that the guy on the sample is a friend of there's, I think he's a homeless guy that a couple of them met on the street. The poem he reads out is actually an iron maiden song.

Slow Riot is the best thing they did

possibly the pinnacle of post rock

im not a big fan of it

both songs just build on one idea, their other stuff has more dimensions

funny you should mention that

because my mate interviewed them a few years ago and they said that the guy is an actor (a very good one in my opinion). The poem he quotes is actually the lyrics to an Iron Maiden song...the guy is also credited as Blaise Bailey III or something: Blaze Bailey was the singer in Maiden for awhile wasn't he?

More details anyone?

Slow Riot is probably the best thing they ever did - lift your skinny fists has its moments tho

^i think that covers it

f#a# is my favourite.

most post-rock pales in comparison to godspeed.

*all

I thought that the

actor was the guy who does the 'the cars are on fire' guy not the 'speeding ticket' guy.

Lift Yr Skinny Fists

Storm blows me away and the last 8 minutes of Static is incredible.

Amamzing Driving music, is Godspeed.

I'm suprised there aren't more

responses for f#a# on here.

Maybe people don't know where their hash keys are???

I thought it was quite broadly considered to be the best thing ever since sliced bread?

'The cars on fire' trumps 'I have come here to pay my speeding ticket' any day in my opinion, for amazing sample usage in post-rock.

That is good but I prefer the mental soundscapes created on Skinny Fists.

However, Dead Flag Blues is impossibly great.

If you like all the

ambient passages in lift yr skinny fists - all the oscillating n bowed cymbals n whatnot, check out Zeit by Tangerine Dream...it's got a virtually identical brooding, gothic, avante garde type atmosphere going on...the first tune has about four cellos playing against old skool moogs n the like and sounds just like the start of 'Slow Riot...'

Boss.

TOTALLY UNSUBSTANTIATED rumour ahoy

I just bumped into one of the 'site management team' (he and I talk about music quite a lot after he saw that I was using the cover of Jane Doe as my desktop background while he was fixing something in my classroom)and he said he got an email from an American friend of his who's heard from a friend that a Godspeed 'reunion' tour and album are being whispered about.

Has anyone else heard this at all?

HOLY SHIT

I kinda hope they don't

the unreleased stuff they played live wasnt great neither was yanqui

That would be amazing

but I'm not getting my hopes up.

For me, Skinny Fists is my favourite closely followed by F#A#, but they're all great!

"I said 'Kiss me, you're beautiful - these are truly the last days'"
"I opened up my wallet and it's full of blood"

they should use this in an advert

'for everything else there's Mastercard'

Haha

yeah; "We're trapped inside the belly of this horrible machine... and I feel like Chicken Tonight!"

Would love to see them again

but I got the impression from things Efrim said during the last ASMZ tour that it was unlikely to happen anytime soon. Too many people involved wrapped up with lots of other projects.

ASMZ have been getting so good lately though I'd probably rather see them.

lol

its been whispered about for years

Difficult as they're all so good

For me it goes:

Skinny Fists > F# A# oo > Slow Riot > Yanqui

The opening ten minutes of Skinny Fists is my favouritest piece of music, the rest is not far behind.

i remember

preordering levez. when it came i put disc 1 on as i was running a bath and ended up in there for the duration.
for me, levez is their best work.
in particular 'chart #3' - the monologue on that ("when you see the face of god you will die...") is haunting.
id love to get a hold of 'all lights fucked on the hairy amp drooling' but seeing as they only made 33 copies i doubt it will ever come to light as it hasnt already! :(

...

f#a# (infinity)> (tie) Skinny Fists & Slow Riot> Yanqui U.X.O.
^ That is what I think.
