it's all the subtle bits that i love, too. like the monologue, the icy "goodbye" (provided by Martin Fry's real life ex), the choir and violins after "...judge the look by the lover".
i'm listening to it now - i'm all a flutter <3
me too
but in a crap order because i put on look of love first. his lyrics make me want to laugh/cry. it's so so so so good and so so so so cringeworthy at the same time but martin TOTALLY pulls it off and comes out godlike.
but poptimus was pretty big on the love front anyway beforehand, so it's all relative.
so....
i wasn't "big on the love front" beforehand? FINE. NO SERIOUSLY, FINE. I'M A BIG MAN, I CAN HANDLE THAT
:'''''''''''''''''''(
i don't know you... you should talk to me more ;)
(})(})
but i can assure you you're pretty high on the love front after this. i should make a scale/
YAY
definitely make a scale, and put "fans of LOL" right at the top
Wow
I've often used ABC as a guilty pleasure thingy here... Yeah, Shoot That Poison Arrow is utterly fantastico! ...but I also liked their much maligned follow-up lp (whose name escapes me).
i laugh in the face of guilty pleasures.
when the pop is this good.
YOU THINK YOU'RE SMART
STUPID
STUPID
THEME FROM MANTRAP
i know it wasn't on the original album etc.
But it should've been. YAYY
Valentine's Day
i still think trevor horn owes his entire life and career to this 1 song. Good god what a production job.
Saw them in Chicago (1984)
Martin wore gold lemay at the show and a bomber jacket at the Smart Bar where he hung out with bunch of fans (me included) till closing- a really sweet person.
Best thread ever.
When the postman don't call on Valentines Day...
Never trust anyone who
a) has never heard this
b) doesn't like it
you know
Great album!
- but I think Human League's 'Dare' may be better...controversial eh?
don't be silly.
I thought you loved me, but it seems you don't care
I care enough to know I can never love you.
(cue air drums)
some classics on there for sure
but for consistency:
SCRITTI POLITTI- CUPID & PSYCHE '85
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I have finally found a home on DiS
Cupid & Psyche '85 what a pretentious album title and what an amazing album. Wood Beez is one of the best songs ever.
And there hasn't been enough love for Date Stamp from Lexicon on this thread.
"I get sales talk, from sales assistants/
When all I wanna do girl is lower your resistance"
You literally couldn't make it up
A good pop album
to be sure, but not the best. The accolade goes to 'Songs From The Big Chair' by Tears for Fears - or maybe Madonna's first album - seriously - not one bad track to be found.
"Purple Rain" beats
all of those you've mentioned.
Well.
I think the truth is that everybody knows Thriller is the best pure pop album ever made.
But there are some fine runners up, including Purple Rain, Lexicon Of Love and Dare!, all of which are pretty close to perfect.
But nothing beats Thriller. If you don't believe me, just dig it out and listen to it again - you'll be convinced within three seconds.
nah.
yah.
nah.
rah.
Balls
I'll tell thee what's better than 'Thriller'...
...'Deep Sea Skiving' by Bananarama.
You know it.
purple rain is better
true
but LOL (ha! lol) is cooler and funner and fuck it, better
many happy returns
these are indeed the lessons we should have learned
Amazing album
definitely one of the greats
I despair of you peole
why are you listening to stuff like this?
umm
because its really, really good?
the start of valentines day!
If you play that to people who don't know it they think its metallica or summit. what?
I'll join the love for this album.
"Don't ask me, I already know."
For a very long thread on Lexicon Of Love
I'm amazed no-one's mentioned how wonderful All Of My Heart is.
All of My Heart is...
wonderful!!!! But it's the one song that strays that step to far into syrupyness (syrupiness? god knows) Valentines Day is my favourite. I love the way Many Happy Returns goes into Tears Are Not Enough.
My ticket for the Steel City Tour arrived at the weekend
ABC, t'League and Heaven 17 on one bill. You bets ya.
yes yes yes
it is amazing.
"if you judge the book by the cover, then you judge the look by the lover"
the best part might be:
"and though my friends just might ask me
they say martin maybe one day youll find true love
i say maybe, (sigh) there must be a solution
to the one thing, the one thing, we cant find"
the album is amazing, but that song is the highlight.
OBVIOUSLY that song is the best
but still: <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
i'm listening to it now.
ohhh i love you ABC.
2 gether 4 eva.
oh my, i forgot this song.
* 4 ever 2 gether.
RETARD.
xxx
<3
seriously though: best pop album ever? Only MJ can challenge
it is just classic after classic
and mmmm

oh fuck, the Look of Love is just amazing
ABC: best pop band ever
<3 you <-------------->
