Neil Diamond

Buddy Guy

definitely

no seriously

Did the bit when

some guy tried to pull down her dress get coverage then?

i felt sorry

for the innocent guy that got hit in the face...

futureheads

bbc showed a few of their songs from the john peel stage at about 2 oclock this morning on one of the red button channels and it was the most exciting thing i've seen on the coverage all weekend.

My Top Three

1. Kings Of Leon.
2. The Verve.
3.Elbow.

zzz

zzzzzz

Pretty similar to the 'people'!

www.pollthepeople.com have a poll running to determine the top glasto performance from this year, your top 3 are pretty similar apart form Jay Z.

I have to say John Mayer was a highlight of mine....

wow

'the people' think the greatest album ever is 'life in cartoon motion' by Mika.

^

yes.

I meant

the futureheads statement.

Just Jay Z

from what I have seen which is most of the highlight shows every night and the odd bit of diggital coverage.

Winehouse was alright for the first bit of her set then was a mess and I got bord.

Kings of Leon where quite bland I couldn;t get into them at all.

Lykke Li did a lil accoustic thing which I enjoyed quite alot.

I have had to turn the sound off on The Verve I couldn;t handle any more.

I'm sure

it would be more fun at the acctual event though, you can find pleanty to amuse ya heh

Hot Chip & Wiley

was good. The Ethiopiques bit was really really good too. Mulatu Astatke was rocking the vibes like.

Nowt better than The Stooges last year though :(

the obvious

being Jay Z.

I'm in no way a fan of his records, but his performance was brilliant.

I've only caught a few others, but nothing really stood out as being great.

Black Kids were terrible though, seriously disappointing stuff.

i watched far too much of it and

elbow were pretty good, they work with the big audience and the afternoon slot, they didn't play/show grace under pressure though :( and jay z was bitchin'. I don't think there are many bands now that would make me go WOW and would also be a big hit with the audience, radiohead, maybe daft punk...

anyway

i think so...maybe not recently though

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2sTvHQvB6s

yeah

glastonbury should have swapped headliners with roskilde: Radiohead, The Chemical Brothers, Sigur Ros, My Bloody Valentine

although sigur ros aren't at roskilde

well they can be in my fictitious glastonbury anyway.

Daft Punk

would be damn special.

I would be a rubbish Glasto currator I am crap at knowing bands that loadsa loadsa festival goers would like.

that would make the bestest glastonbury ever.... :(

i hope it happens again one day.. sigh... :(

from the tv coverage

elbow looked the best amazingly.

Nothing really grabbed me at all.

I havn't seen anything on the BBC's coverage and thought "WOW!"
Pretty dull all round. I'm glad I didn't go.

wow! i'm glad you didn't go too.

you sound so exciting to be around.

^ this

Seconded. If you were just watching it on the tellybox, I'm not sure you should be trying to pick a highlight.

Spiritualized's set was way too short.

me getting

my hands on nathan followills drum sticks!!!!!!!!

and generally being with my friends and brother and having a good old time

mgmt were great, their bassist caresses his instrument like its a baby

I'm putting my money on the national.

they're on interactive after the groove armada.

please someone have recorded this

watching elbow and it all these people singing along = amazing

I think it was a bit boring this year

cos it never rained.

it did Friday.

i thought it rained thursday?

although my days did blur a bit.

Massive Attack....

were the only ones detached from mediocrity

Absolutely right

It's a blummin' disgrace that Jay-Z headlined the main stage when that should have been Massive Attack's slot. Still, from what I saw, they drew a bigger crowd.

uhm

Jay Z is reported to have drawn the biggest crowd ever. So maybe not.

Yeah Massive Attack filled the Other field

Jay Z filled the Pyramid field.

The latter is about twice as big as the former

That thing

that Dizzee Rascal did with Calvin Harris was bloody ace. That was the highlight for moi, along with Westwood's interview with Jay Z, which was pure comedy gold.

This is what it looks like!

I saw bits and pieces of the Beebs Glasto coverage

and there wasn't a single act which was worth my while un-muting the telly.

They always go on about how many good acts there are - why do they just show the crap boring average ones then?

panic at the disco

and estelle were my favourites.
estelle's band is fucking rad.

.

raps greatful dead, great young HOV. jiggaaa.

leonard cohen doing hallelujah was..

amazing. many people round me had a tear in their eye or a lump in their throat...

cerys doing a string laden version of 'you've gotta a lot to answer for' was pretty special.

and jay z's intro was beyond amazing.

Hallelujah

was very very special. Did the BBC show it?

^^^

I've never seen anything like it in my life.

To go and see someone you've never given any attention before be so astonishing was better than anything.

No, Mr Cohen got stung by his agent or something

So he's releasing it on DVD as he needs the money :'(

this

Leonard Cohen's whole set was magic, from the very first time his voice oozed out of the speakers, so deep you felt it in your chest. Fuck yes.

Leonard Cohen

or MGMT

MGMT in the John Peel tent?

Because from where I was standing you couldn't hear a thing. Absolutely terrible sound

Both John Peel and Park.

We fought rudely through the crowd to get closer in, because the sound from outside was silent almost. We had a great time too.

But then at the Park we were about 4 people from the front, had just seen Last Shadow Puppets with Jack White and was being given loads of whiskey from this beautiful beautiful girl I was chatting to.

So Park was better.

Franz secret show >.<

we'd completely given up on the rumors and were well into getting wasted on a hill when we heard matinee start up so we ran down and danced our bottoms off. Pretty vintage.

Pretty ace werent it

Jay Z was fantastic, Hot Chip were totally on form and Wiley was just the icing on the cake.
Holy Fuck, Vampire Weekend, Los Campesinos! and Spiritualized were all great too.

Operator Please

esp. the cover of "Push It". Also Crystal Castles going insane and getting chucked off. Jay-Z was ace too.

The best things I saw

Jay Z
Seeing Leonard Cohen - that was some list ticking shit right there. I shed a little tear during Everybody Knows as I couldn't believe I was actually witnessing it
Holy Fuck
Hot Chip
Band Of Horses
Stars (despite their short set because they finished on time unlike every other motherfucker there)
Does It Offend You Yeah nearly starting a riot
Vampire Weekend
The National despite next to no one being there

Disappointments

After telling everyone for about a month that Franz Ferdinand would be the special guests not going and missing what sounded like a classic set
XX Teens - caught them by chance last year in the Dance Tent and was blown away. A year later in the same place and they were an utter disgrace
MGMT - bored the fuck out of me

You said it to me on these very boards.

I went and had the time of my life. Thank you :D

Crowded House

YEAH!

The Specials

followed by Buddy followed by Candi.

Highlights:

Leonard Cohen - Fucking legend!
The Verve - Bittersweet was amazing
Seasick Steve (acoustic) - Fucking great fun
And of course the sun!

Lowlights:

The Levellers - They are just shite!
MGMT - Crap live, crap music!
Vampire Weekend - Just not good live!
Thursday nights rain!

I thought

Neon Neon were great, not very lively until Har Mar got involved (his hilarious bald forehead moustache made me chuckle) but some awesome tunes.

haha

yeah Gruff spent most of the set in a deck chair, but that was a fun set, especially in the sun.

Suzanne Vega

was fantastic, as were:

Eddy Grant
Black Mountain
MGMT

But the best performance was by Rodney Branigan in a small tent in the green fields singing and playing two guitars simultaneously all powered by two audience members pedalling a tandem.

Non musical highlights

Half the people we were camped with being in a perma K-hole.

Shouting "K-Hole!" at these people.

Watching the sun rise on numerous nights.

Story telling workshop (this was amazing for reasons only about 3 other people will ever know)

A pair of drug dealers going around the campsite with a drugs menu.

The Igloo (and the whole place exploding to 99 Problems)

Upside down disco.

Discovering a massive bed in Shangri-La.

You missed out

your poo in the woods :D

A drug dealer gave us a business card

It was tip top quality with a load of smarties on it

Does this mean I'm getting old?

1. Leonard Cohen
2. Seasick Steve

3. Neon Neon

.

neon neon.

and har mar superstar was a lovely little treat.

Los Campesinos! were fine

apart from the COMPLETE BELL of a singer. Smuggest C*NT i've ever seen/heard - don't know how the rest put up with him....

1. The National
2. Elbow
3. Dizzee Rascal
4. The Presets
5. Shlomo

Los campesinos!

set in the Guardian Lounge was so much better than on the other stage!

Oh I forgot

The DJ tower in Trash City shooting out lasers and 20 foot flames

The National

were head and shoulders over everyone else i saw

neon neon

and holy fuck were both exceptional

jay z did steel the show though.

I was stood watching Kings of Leon

and was like "Why the fuck is the sky lighting up?"

About half an hour later I was in Trash City and saw it. Holy Shit

My highlights

Jay-Z, especially the intro.
Crowded House's banter with security and Weather With You.
Franz Ferdinand.
Dizzee, especially when Calvin Harris turned up.
Annie in the Dance Lounge on Sunday night, there were only about 40 people there, she opened with Chewing Gum, it was incredible.
Realising how many great songs the Futureheads have now, i.e. lots.
British Sea Power in the Leftfield tent.
Vampire Weekend - having heard they were meant to be shit live, it was a pleasant surprise to discover they were ace.

Oh, and I almost forgot

Lykke Li.

The Park or Guardian Lounge?

I saw in The Park. What a splendid way to start a hungover Saturday

The Park

I liked it when she played a solo on a golden kazoo through a loudspeaker, and the fact that she appeared to just be wearing a black sack. Can't wait to see her at Latitude now.

Highlights:

- Jay-Z, unsurprisingly
- Dizzee Rascal. Always, always brilliant
- Vampire Weekend in the John Peel tent. Can't believe some people think they're shit live
- Neon Neon. Coolest band ever?
- Hot Chip
- Lupe Fiasco
- Lykki Li
- Ending with The National

Low points:

- MGMT in the John Peel tent. How bad was that sound?
- Roni Size. Again, awful sound
- Making the mistake of killing some time before Lupe Fiasco joining my mates for the first two songs of the Tings Tings. Absolutely hideous
- Not being able to see a thing at Mystery Jets. Especially Laura Marling :(
- Not realising DJ Format was on for way over an hour due to mental state at the time

neon neon

agreed coolest band of the wkd.

"mind if i sit down"

Almost anybody else, and I would've thought

"You prick"

But not Gruff

Did nobody go see..

..battles?! (I didn't, I wasn't there..)

I did

they were brilliant, but had to cut there set short because everyone else had over run which was very very annoying!

Everyone overran

And bands who were professional (Stars are an exmaple) got penalised by trying to finish on time and losing chunks of their set
