Well that was a very enjoyable weekend.... highlights being Brakes, Piney Gir, 65 days of static and Motormark. Left at around 6 to avoid crowds and because I was generally exausted.

And you?

Re: Home from Truck

the big Truck comedown starts here
*cries*

Re: Home from Truck

You missed iForward Russia! :o

Truck was great great great. Except Martin Grech, whom my housemate wanted to see. He bored the shit out of me, but at least the acoustic tent was full so I could bask in the collective body heat like a festival-going penguin.

Re: Home from Truck

i didn't miss iForward Russia! *glee*
they were bloody loud for that time on a Sunday evening though.

i couldn't stand Martin Grech either. Was waiting for Chris T-T impatiently, yes, but he sounded in physical pain rather than emotional pain. Ah well...

Re: Home from Truck

I was on about the thread-starter, they said they left at 6, which -outrageous as it may seem- means they missed iFR!

"We're more magic -and we've got more numbers...this one's called Eleven!"

That drummer-girl is bloody good!

Chris TT was enjoyable, poor fella did seem to be suffereing tho.

Re: Home from Truck

yeah i know you were, just pointing out how AWESOME iFR! were.

i'm more excited about Chris T-T's new album too....

Poverty's bad
War is bad
Racism's bad
Well done, have a biscuit.

Who saw Towers of London being followed by twelve-year-old girls? *puts hand up*

Re: Home from Truck

That was AWESOME. His new stuff is sounding wonderfully, and lyrically as incisive as normal.

Re: Home from Truck

my mum looks better than those guys.

truck was fucking awesome.

Re: Home from Truck

well at least you went! i've been working all weekend and all week :(

Re: Home from Truck

*jealous*

Re: Home from Truck

Reading Buildup starts here!

we will have a DiS meet up?

Re: Home from Truck

me and pirate are going to reading, so i'm thinking we should.

Re: Home from Truck

I will look out for a bear then.

Re: Home from Truck

a bear acompanied by a badger/pirate and a duck and possibly a shark.

Re: Home from Truck

I have a Zoo as my entourage.

I will also be bringing no DiSers with me. Actually i did meet a DiSer last week, but i already knew him.

Re: Home from Truck

A fine weekend indeed. The Young Knives were Saturday's highlight for me. Battle were good as was Patrick Wolf (though I heard he demanded his own dressing room and was an all-round pain in the arse)

Brakes were the best band I saw today by far although I actually quite enjoyed The Magic Numbers *goes red in the face*

And saddest sight of the weekend...Towers of London groupie-hunting outside the toilets drinking White Lightning

Re: Home from Truck

me and pirate come as a pair apparently. I can imagine it would be really strange having people coming up to you and saying 'her fullerov' and not knowing who they are

Re: Home from Truck

Nah your first time is weird, but then you get used to it. It seems more appropriate to referr to them by their usernames.

Re: Home from Truck

Not really.

i would guess that they were from DiS.

Other people call me by my first name.

Re: Home from Truck

*hey even

Re: Home from Truck

I'm gonna give out my mobile number before i go, so i can arrange a meet up with people.

*sighs when he realises, he has slipped a futher rung on the great ladder of Cool*

Re: Home from Truck

so, you went around for the weekend saying 'oh, thommo, is that wishpig over there by fellalady'? Isn't that weird?

Re: Home from Truck

That's basically exactly what I did.

Re: Home from Truck

since my name is my user name i may be a little confused if i ever meet any dis people.

Re: Home from Truck

hehe i love the fact i'm a member of dis its like my dirty little secret. Shhhhhhh!

who cares anyway.

Re: Home from Truck

The Man cares!

The Man always cares!

Re: Home from Truck

Patrick Wolf (though I heard he demanded his own dressing room and was an all-round pain in the arse)

ahahahaha. aww, patrick's lovely really.

Re: Home from Truck

I met you! haha.

Re: Home from Truck

i met you! Briefly. moribund was there too.

Re: Home from Truck

i would tell you the bands i enjoyed but i might be reviewing it so i'll save it up.

i give the banana smoothies five stars.

Re: Home from Truck

Agreed! BUT I was quite dissapointed when the woman started spooning big tablespoons of sugar into my 'healthy alternative'.

I give no stars to the woman in the Ice Cream Stand;

Me: Can I have an Ice Cream?
Her: A what?
Me: An Ice Cream
Her: Pardon?
Me: Ice! Cream!
Her: Scuse me?
Me Ice Cream!!!
Her: OK.

In my head tho I shouted "What the fuck do you think I want? I'm in the god-damned Ice Cream tent! The only other thing you sell is sherbert, even if you can't understand me you can hear that I'm saying 2 words and it ends in an 'eem' sound! Sherbert is not 2 words, and doesn't end in an 'eem'. Now give me an ice cream you cunt!"

Re: Home from Truck

uh, SELL me an ice cream you cunt, actually.

I'm making the last verse about that.

Re: Home from Truck

ROBOCHRIST!!!!!! wins

and the open mouths

but biffy clyro were boring

i can't remember much else and i'm actually still a bit of a mess as i write this

thank you

good night

Re: Home from Truck

oh yeah Robochrist was absolutely fucking awesome.
i wanted to piss myself laughing at the Geordie Racer sample he used.

Re: Home from Truck

yeah, you should have brought wishpig along with you and pointed at her t-shirt.
Poor girl, she missed the Trailer Trash Orchestra do a hillbilly version of 'Now I Wanna Be Sedated'.

Oh yeah, that reminds me, did anyone see the four-year-old Ramones fan?

Re: Home from Truck

yeh, he walked past us and Wishpig's eyes lit up -I worried I was about to witness some kidnapping.

Re: Home from Truck

maybe he wasn't four years old but just very, very short?

Re: Home from Truck

Dunno, I thought it might have been the same kid I saw throwing Devil Horn signs during Electric Eel Shock last year.

Re: Home from Truck

who was dressed as Tigger during Goldrush's set?

Re: Home from Truck

Highlights:
-Forward Russia
-Patrick Wolf
-Fonda 500
-Trademark
-Mesaplex
-undertheigloo
-RoboChrist
-Chris TT
-65daysofstatic
-Editors
-Brakes
-Mystery Jets
-MC Lars

I'm sure i've missed someone out.

Lowlights:
-Hondo Maclean
-Magic Numbers
-Towers of London

I met Pretty_Vacant and Wishpig and they were lovely. I met Quietcrown as well, but I didn't realise until a bit after as my hearing had been knackered up by Forward Russia minutes beforehand. He was nice.

I saw Monpot and Thommo on several occasions but didn't pluck up the courage to say anything. Monpot gave me a bored look as we were watching some lass called Juliet. Who was a bit rubbish really.

I saw Brainlove as well, but I didn't want to cramp his style.

The dancing in the Acoustic Tent on Saturday night/Sunday morning was a wonder to behold. And Wishpig was singing along to a Kaiser Chiefs song. Ha!

Re: Home from Truck

I'm terribly offended! You spoke to Wishpig and them, why not me? What did I do? I would have offered you a beer!

PV told me you were about, and I said that I didn't know what you looked like, she gave the best description;

"He has longish hair, and a Truck t-shirt" -easy to spot then!

I was very bored by Juliette. You know when a saucy looking girl singing about her proactive sex life bores you, that it must indeed be ummmm boring. Well, more over-done than boring. Well done! You like sex, and you have a drum machine! Or a drummer behind a big perspex screen as the case may be.

Re: Home from Truck

You were intimidating!

That sounds a bit like me, although I had many costume changes and was wearing an MC LARS t-shirt when I saw you earlier. She might have forgotten to mention 'minging', but she probably would have withheld that, being nice 'n all.

Yeah, I came in just before you and left soon after you did. There wasn't much happening at that point though so I was clutching at straws...

Re: Home from Truck

silly utm. i don't bite....(hard).
we could have talked about Fonda, or LotF, or Didcot Rotary Club...
i decided to cramp Brainlove's style as much as i could and it felt strangely liberating...hehe...

were you in the Acoustic Tent when they played Guns and Roses? *shudders*

Re: Home from Truck

YES! But they also played Dinosaur Jr = they get a reprieve.

Re: Home from Truck

yeah there seemed to be a pattern when i was there.

Reggae platter, BlocKaiserKillers tune, another reggae platter with somebody trying to put a youkay garridge a-capella over the top, hair metal, reggae platter.....and so the cycle continues.

And was it just my warped imagination or was Boris Becker there?

Re: Home from Truck

I think I know who you mean actually :-D

Haha.

Re: Home from Truck

he-he... i was wondering how early in the eve it would be before someone would post a pre-truck thread;)

what i enjoyed about truck?
most likely the fact that i stumbled upon bands/musicians that i'd heard of but hadn't heard (if that makes sense)... some of the acts i enjoyed:

65 days of static
the drug squad (it was the kid in the orange wet weather gear skanking along that put a smile to my dial)
c-jags
stuffy and the fuses
the walk off (with evil looking bear harassing the crowd!)
chris t-t
forward russia (during their set, some little girl decided she really liked my blue jumper and attempted to steal it, whilst i was standing right next to her!)

thats all i can remember right now... but overall an enjoyable weekend. oh, and if you want to get into the backstage area... all you need to do is get white toilet paper twist it tightly and secure it around your wrist - (the security staff didn't really check - and this was done at night;) but to be honest not much was going on backstage anyways...

Re: Home from Truck

highlights in no order:

the walk off
sexy breakfast
fell city girl
scaramanga six
zea
robochrist
patrick wolf
65 days of static

lowlights:
towers of london (not even funny)
schla la las
rain
hangover

Re: Home from Truck

I thought the Schla La Las were shit as well. Pretty_ Vacant tried to stick up for them for some reason. Meh, I think I lasted longer watching Towers of London than I did them.

Re: Home from Truck

i saw them a few weeks back and really enjoyed them...but on saturday they were just boring. I liked:

sexy breakfast
trademark
loz colbert
dusty soundsystem
goldrush
mc lars
fell city girl

im sure there were more...

Re: Home from Truck

sexy breakfast are ace - its their boat party on sunday which should be fantastique

Re: Home from Truck

yeah! i'll be there! the last one was class too.

Re: Home from Truck

ace - im not sure if ill go yet but looks good, hopefully the toilets work this time

Re: Home from Truck

ah it's ok! if they don't at least there's a river.

Re: Home from Truck

hah fair point. its a toss up between this and duckfest for me (can't afford both), look out for someone that looks like my profile pic :|

Re: Home from Truck

Schla la las are just good pop fun. There's nowt wrong with that. Plus, they had the best stage banter of the weekend

Re: Home from Truck

and matching costumes! *heart*

Re: Home from Truck

the drummers costume was a bit different

they were sub-pipettes, and that says a lot

Re: Home from Truck

what was wrong with chris t-t?

Re: Home from Truck

He had a really bad headache, some nice lady in the crowd gave him some juice. I think someone offered him some kind of medication but he turned it down.

Still put in a good set tho.

Re: Home from Truck

I agree Chris T-T was good, a few more funny ones would have been nice though. I had my fingers crossed for "i dream of injured popstars" and "eminem is gay" but sadly heard neither. Martin Gretch was on before him and was incredible, despite forgetting how most of his songs went. Can't see what the big fuss is about MC lars i must say.

Re: Home from Truck

I think he's just taking his music more seriously these days..

Re: Home from Truck

That song about the countryside was good -funny without being a 'joke' song.

Re: Home from Truck

I had a good weekend.

I now feel terrible.

Re: Home from Truck

It's because you drunk all brainlove's and fidel's cider.I didn't drink enough - I was hoping for an epic hangover.

Re: Home from Truck

hmm, the cider was a mistake.

i don't think brainlove likes me very much.

Re: Home from Truck

haha your little scream when wolf played running up a hill was hilarious!!

Re: Home from Truck

he sounded like a girl, then wouldnt shut up about how fit patrick wolf, apparently, is...

i dont think i get patrick wolf.

Re: Home from Truck

I liked the weird stuff with the violin, possibly because of my college indoctrination into violin noises, but the rest of his set was a bit meh for me.

Re: Home from Truck

he just didnt really do anything for me. which is a shame.

Re: Home from Truck

What were you hoping he'd do for you? Some housework, maybe? Or possibly the weekly shopping.

Re: Home from Truck

find an instant cure for the mumps for emma. he did do that? did he hell, he just played about with his instruments... geez.

Re: Home from Truck

I can honestly say i prefer Patrick Wolf to orgasms.

Re: Home from Truck

what about orgasms with Patrick Wolf?

hmm....

Re: Home from Truck

what about orgasms with Patrick Wolf?

hmm....

Re: Home from Truck

two orgasms!

Re: Home from Truck

i think he's taking subject matter more seriously this year whilst promoting 'Red Songs'. And then returning to the rock band (who happen to also be most of Stuffy and the Fuses) next year, in the third of the London trilogies.

He played Drink Beer though! Which was fitting.

Re: Home from Truck

Argh I've got Post-Festival Phantom Wrist Band Syndrome!

Re: Home from Truck

You took your's off? heathen!!

Mine will be with me till the day I die.

Re: Home from Truck

I just don't like having things on my wrist. I've only recently started wearing a watch again, but I can't keep it on for long.

Festival wrist bands are cut off and binned as soon as I get home. I'm not the sentimental type.

Re: Home from Truck

These ones don't say 'Truck' on them like they used to though...only the backstage "Don't you know who i am?" passes...

Re: Home from Truck

I was very jealous of the backstage passes - the purple ones were a bit crap not having Truck written on them! I can't believe you were all there watching Chris TT and I didn't speak to any of you! *cries at lameness*

Re: Home from Truck

the reason for the puurple crap ones was that the multi coloured rainbow ones where deemed to easy to get off and give to someone else....late on friday night

the new ones only arrived at 4am on saturday morning, so there was no time to make them nice and pretty

Re: Home from Truck

Oh, that seems fair enough. They were a pretty colour!

Re: Home from Truck

Not long back, as I stayed on Sunday night too...so much rain!

I met none of you, apart from John Brainlove and guntrip-who I knew already.

My highlights were-
65 Days of Static (predictable that!)
Martin Grech ( I know he forgot how some of his songs ended, but what he did play included some of my favourites and two completely new songs to me.)
Brakes
Scaramanga Six
The Edible 5ft Smiths
Chris TT
Zea
the Young Knives
Nervous test pilot
Luke Smith
and possibly Fell City Girl-I only got to hear one song, but that I liked.

Bored by-
Towers of London
Scha La Las
Biffy
Magic Numbers (so slushy!)

Surprised to find I liked do me bad things too.
