So I was listening to Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake It's Morning, and i was curious to see as to what DiS thought of it. To my suprise, it was rated/reviewed it was give 10/10. I like this album a lot, and maybe agree that it was worthy of its score, but this also made me think...

even though they aren't "perfect"
in my opinion,
10's should be used few and far between. A 10/10 album should be a masterpiece. If album after album is given high scores, then it loses its value and its hard to separate the shit from the amazing.....
maybe if you view music in a purely academic sense
where it's all about ticking the right boxes. Actual music appreciation relies on something more personal, a sense of the overall power of the album in question
So yeah, 10/10 is for how it makes you feel. And since i'm not giving a "buyer's guide" to anyone i can hand them out willy-nilly
each to his own.
i agree with what you say though. I have a lot of albums, that wouldn't ever be given a 10, but mean a 10 to me personally.
But, when it comes to reading reviews online, are you likely to even buy a album that is given a 5/6? as this could be a 10 to you but you'll never know if you don't buy it.
i bought the "They Came From The Stars I Saw Them" album
it got 4/10 on DiS and this was the only place i'd read about it.

i honestly don't think i've heard a 10/10 record.
Even my absolute faves have slight flaws. I'd love to pick something rare but the Nirvana Unplugged LP is probably as near to flawless as i've heard. I'm not sure how that could've been better in any possible way.

When I was writing for DiS I was giving stuff marks out of 5. This - to me - is a lot different than giving marks out of 10. Therefore I don't agree with many of my old review marks...
