Reccomend me some noise (meditation centric)

sorry - I know we have had a few 'reccomend me some noise' threads recently, but I have a specific request. I've got the merzbow/boris collaboration 'sun baked snow cave' and I love it, it's like immursing myself in a warm bath of noise. I find it great for meditation / relaxation, whereas the Merzbow solo stuff I've heard is great but too... 'jumpy'(?) for this purpose.

So... has anyone got any reccomendations for noise records that I can chill / meditate /relax too?

bardo pond?

lapsed is an awesome album, i like listening to it in a dark room

pocahaunted maybe

the new 'un is great, same as always but with some dub basslines thrown in. their split with christina carter (also of charalambides!) is also pretty damn decent. you should try some axolotl out too - i had a few epihanous moments whilst listening to his "way blank" album last winter. there is a fuckload of stuff like this out there.

I suppose it's more of a drone record

but with a celestial, spaced out kind of sound.

aimed at my earlier post

I fail at using the boards

drone is good

the drone/noise interface is, I suppose, what I am stumbling towards here.

Tarpit

by White Rock. Gorgeous!

fab

thanks guys - some awesome sounding stuff here which I'm busy checking out - anyone else got any ideas?

fennesz...

I wouldn't call them noise, but they (he) is certainly good for relaxing, or meditation.

Get one of these

http://www.fm3buddhamachine.com/

I bought three of eBay, they make good, but confusing presents too!

what the hell is it?

I mean, other than my new wallpaper, which it now is.

Its a little machine

that has 8 loops of ambient/drone music and a switch to change between them, and a lil speaker! Its super good background/meditation music. Get one and find out, I dont think they are expensive...

Wow

there's Buddha Machine 2.0 out in Autumn, with 3 new colours and 9 new loops. Awesome!

I've got a Buddha machine

it's a brilliant toy :)

Ah Buddha Machines

are lots of fun

Groaner?

www.myspace.com/dirtygroaner i think

i've got a great couple of demo cds from them.

20 minute drone ftw

What about the new Grouper?

Dragging a Dead ear up a Hill

Or even better is The Patron by To Kill a Petty Bourgeoisie

Not really noise

but Max Richter is great for relaxing and also wonderful music.

Polvo

I just found out about 'em on a whim...and I'm a little miffed at DiSers who knew and didn't have the courtesy to point out such a stellar band... so in case they've flown below your radar MrScagden...Sir, might I suggest ^

Also, I really like new Pumice QUO

I wrote a review for this here website, but it doesn't look like it's gonna get printed...so I'll give you the short version: It's bloody good innit!

GAS

GAS GAS GAS GAS GAS

very relaxing not in your face noise but has a cirtain drone to it. Oh it has the odd bit of techno beat in there to but its subtle

bookmarked

This is why I love DiS. You guys rock. My IRL friends are so muscially conservative - it is genuinely a relief to be able to have people I can talk to (ableit electronically) about stuff like this :)

Sleep Research Facility

Best described as dark ambient and kinda droney. I bought the album Deep Frieze recently and I love it - perfect background noise, yet I find it strangely uplifting. This album has an Antarctica concept which is perfectly summed up by a quote in the booklet: "...there is a certain comforting warmth in the encroaching slumber of hypothermia."

I also need to check out an earlier album he released called Nostromo - it's based on the opening minutes of Alien where the ship is floating through space and everyone is in hypersleep. The tracks I've heard of this are great.

Belong - Colorloss Record

It's the most beautiful ambient drone you'll ever hear, glorious music. Their "October Language" album is along reasonable similar lines but with more white noise and it's not quite as successful for me.

Maybe Yellow Swans - Descension? This does get more abrasive than the Merzbow/Boris collab but it's done the job for me in the past on long train rides.

before i even opened this thread..

I thought that you should check out Atari Teenage Riot's Live at Brixton Academy.

I find

Fuck Buttons is good for the warm fuzzy kind of chill out times.

Even if it isn't really noise...it kinda suits what you're describing.

YES YES YES!

The new Burning Star Core album, Challenger. It is absolutely beautiful. It's not really a noise album but the last Valet album, Naked Acid, is also great to listen to. It's really just drone and her beautiful and kind of scary voice. Evangelista is also great. Goth/Drone/Country but some of the songs are a bit more 'jumpy'. But seriously, Burning Star Core.

Fennesz.

Nurse With Wound "Soliloquy For Lillith"

"All The Pretty Horses" - Current 93

"Time Machines" - Coil

"Absolutego" - boris

"Cryptograms" - Deerhunter

"Metal Machine Music" - Lou Reed

"Umma Gumma (studio disc)" - Pink Floyd

"Obscured By Clouds" Pink Floyd

anything by Arvo Part

"Grimm Rode Demos" sunn o)))

*Soliliquy For LILITH'

The first one (1988). I haven't heard pts. 5 and 6. But it's two full hours of pleasant noise.

also

anything by La Monte Young

and any tuvan throat singing recording is mesmerising

and gamelan music is automatic for deep unthinking

as is gongs, bells and chimes.
