Was searching through piles of CDs that i have no room for in my CD rack and came across the first Capdown record 'Civil Disobedients' and have a listen for the first time in ages.

Brilliant!! This then got me interested again and led nicely onto some Lightyear, Five Knuckle, Screeching Weasel, Consumed.

Late 90's - early 00's was a pretty good time for the punk scene dontcha reckon?

...

Schreeching Weasel shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as that shit! That combined with the fact that the first Schreeching Weasel line up formed in 1986 and broke up in 1989.

true

but Screeching Weasel were active from 1998 to 2001 and released 3 albums in that time. They also reformed in 2004 for a couple of shows

I am

Aware they refomed... but they're not a late 90's early 00 band.

That would be like suggesting that Bon Jovi were famous late 2000's rockers.

Schreeching weasil aren't a late 90's pop punk band. They're way way older than that.

sailing on!

Dead Inside!

I was never a fan of Lightyear on record..........

but, as a live phenomenon they were amazing.

I caught what may have been their final show at Truck a few years ago, certainly one of the last few anyway...it was a spectacle to behold involving stepladders, pantomime cow outfits and a novelty stuffed crocodile.

<3 for Consumed too, the mini album and the debut were brilliant, saw them a few times around 2000/2001, they certainly supported NUFAN and Strung Out on one tour. I never heard the sophomore release though. They ran a pub in Derby at one time, it must have been that one which used to get a string of suprisingly high profile US punk/hardcore acts, no idea if it's still going.

Screeching Weasel on a good day are the best pop punk band in the entire history of the world, they shouldn't be grouped with those other bands though, they've been going since the mid-80s and are WAY more influential.

Absolutely....

Lightyear live were quite astounding!! I saw them live far too many times to count - they always seemed to be playing Brighton and their shows here seemed to usually involved naked streaks into the sea by the trumpet player at some point during the set. Crazy.

I only have the Consumed record 'Hit For Six' which came out on Fat Wreck i think. Mighty good stuff at the time too. Seem to remember they split up though.

I only stuck Screeching Weasel in with the other bands as i got into them in 1999 i think when their album called 'Emo' came out. I know they've beem around for years but i discovered them around the same time as the likes of Lightyear etc. Agree totally about the Weasel though - amazing!

this reminds me... a band called cassette

released an EP called 'emo' (i think i remember it was a bit of joke with the band members). was about early 2001 i think.

they are acoustic-y type band.

they'd kick dashboard confessional's arse. seriously.
