i got an audio interface a few days ago, set it all up, and i'm fairly certain what i'm playing is recording.
however, when i press play to hear what i've recorded, no sound comes out.
i was expecting the sound to come out of my laptop speakers. do i need to plug speakers into the output of my interface to hear what i've just recorded?
is this a stupid question? cheers!
could be your sound card isnt
working.
yeah most likely
if the interface, which I assume is the actual soundcard itself (like an M-Box etc...) then yes.
you mean
most likely i need to plug speakers into the output?
You probably need to...
... just pick the right audio input and output devices from the setup options in whatever audio program you are using.
Make sure the input is set to your new audio interface and the output would be whatever internal soundcard is powering your laptop speakers.
There should only be a couple of different options to choose from so just switch them around until it works.
i'm using cubase,
any cubase tips?
the input is set to my interface (tascam US 122L) as is the output. i can't seem to change the output to anything other than the interface.
i'll keep playing around with it.
thanks.
if the output...
is going to the interface, then yes, you need to plug speakers (or headphones) into the output of the interface.
Bear in mind that if you mange to use your laptop speakers as monitors and subsequently try to overdub what you've recorded, you may suffer from latency (i.e it will go out of time due to the time it takes for your laptop to "process" the incoming sound and send it to the output).
Almost definitely...
If you still need a hand send me a note and let me know what your set-up is (interface and software) and I can talk you through what you need to do. :)
using cubase
its worth remembering that you need to turn monitor OFF when you want to hear what youve recorded back. and ON when you want to hear what youre recording as you record it.
