Filth/Body for Body, Job for Job

though I haven't really heard too much else, this is great

If you're going to listen to Swans

Have some Pepto Bismol ready.

There's a double cd of

Cop/Young God and Greed/Holy Money which is excellent. Children of God/World of Skin is also fantastic I'd say

nnooo

please don't start with the early records. they're just terrible aren't they. ungodly noise. i tried to get into them, but i can't be bothered anymore. they're later stuff is so much more powerful.

get swans are dead, a late live record, and soundtracks for the blind, their last and best one.

???

Depends what you're into I guess.

Swans Are Dead

is a live album, and a perfect example of how eclectic but brilliant Swans back catalogue is.

Sometimes beautiful, sometimes brutal, always haunting. Check out the live version of I Crawled- so powerful!

early/late swans

Their sound evolved so much over time that you really need to listen to an early album and a later one. Personally I'd recommend Cop and White Light from the Mouth of Infinity (pretentious title...beautiful music!)

Bother how can you say the early records are 'just terrible'?! Some of us enjoy ungodly noise! I've yet to hear anything that surpasses Filth and Cop in terms of purely visceral musical pleasure.

filth

definitely get filth

Likewise

I found they only got unlistenable when they dragged out acoustic guitars and pushed the insipid Jarboe to the fore.

I dunno, she sounds good on

some of their later stuff, like Mother/Father.

and Swans are Dead!

The additional Jarboe vocals on this version of I crawled, as alluded to above, are spellbinding.

I have to skip many Jarboe "at the fore" tracks

Jarboe is great though, just way overstretched in the later stuff, especially "Soundtracks For The Blind"- oi vey what agregious catterwauling!

My two favorites are not available anymore

"White Light From The Mouth Of Infinity"

&

"Love Of Life"

also: "The Great Annihilator"

But, basically get anything you can get your hands on and yes have pepto bismol ready but also be ready to be amazed.

All posts on this thread seem pretty spot on.

PS

Good Luck

I hope you become a fan

Filth...

But on vinyl... i didnt like it on CD when i first heard it, but it just fits into place so perfectly on vinyl... sounds fantastic!

Raping A Slave or Cop.

Thems'll do ya.

wasnt..

..raping a slave one of cobains faves?..which means its probably not all that great looking at his best albums list.
i have some songs off the great annihilator downloaded but i just cant get into bands from random spatterings, really need an album i can put on and enjoy through a proper stereo.
thanks to all who have replied :)

COP

Body To Body
Love Of Life

these three are the best, imo
