Mobile Phone Unlocking For Idiots

Right. So I guess I left my phone on a table at The Windmill the other weekend. And now I've had to get a new phone (new as in I've stolen my dad's old one which was at least a whole decade ahead of my in terms of technology) and bother Vodafone for a new sim card. Of course, the new/old phone I'm using is an 02 bastard, and because:

a) i want my old number back
b) 02 can never be forgiven for sponsoring Arsenal

I need to get the phone unlocked so I can reclaim my credit etc, and get inundated by the literally several texts that will be waiting for me on my old number.

Can I unlock it without going to a shop and paying for it because:

a) I'm lazy
b) I've wasted my lunch typing this

Plus I'm interested. I have now dropped a phone in a toilet, wrapped a phone in a pallet to be uplifted to a distribution depot, and left a phone on a picnic table in Brixton.

no, but i read this recently...

Hidden battery power

Imagine your cell battery is very low, you are expecting an important call, and you don't have a charger. Nokia phones come with a reserve battery. To activate, press the keys *3370#. Your cell will restart with this reserve and the phone will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell next time.

someone check and see if this is true

even though i don't have a nokia...

A quick google says:

no, not true. In fact the opposite.

Apparently that code activates some thing which means you get the best audio quality but reduced talk time. There's another code that does the opposite, google it.

well no, it does the opposite.

meaning the audio quality is slightly reduced but you get more battery time.

if you've left your network

your old one should give you your PUK code which unlocks your phone.

learn

to read

i have

and i'm actually really confused as to what he's trying to do.

oh yeah that^

but he needs to unlock it so he can use it on whatever idiot network he's on that isn't o2.

can you please just stay on o2? i have unlimited free calls to o2 mobuiles and it's generally a better service provider.

and you can get your number back on o2 too

if you get the PUK code from whatever idiot network you're on now.

except it's not called a PUK code

it's called soimething else.

PAC

i think

you people

hurt my brain!

seems pretty sensical to me

she got an acronym wrong which she has now corrected, and everyone knows where they stand.

PAC

lets you transfer your number between networks

i don't think you appreciate

the gravity that the first point b holds.

i don't think you appreciate

the meaning of the word "free".

I didn't get to where I am today

by being financially astute

hang on

you've never called me!

:)

a puk

unlocks a sim card when it has been temporarily locked.
a restriction code is needed to unlock your handset for use with other networks.
t-mobile(and most others) restrict their handsets to only be used on thier network. you need to pay £15(information slightly old) to unlock for use with other nets.

i think she means the

code which you get from your old network and give to your new one in order to enable to new one to activate the number for that network.

PAC code

i think i meant

Rechargable batteries

only ever use a certain amount of their capacity, in order to recharge and stuff I don't understand efficiently.

So technically, you could 'unlock' bare more power, but it'd be hurting your battery and eventually it wouldn't work anymore.

it depends what mobile phone it is

google it, moneysavingexperts forum have a bunch of unlocking codes and stuff

Nokia 6070

i'll try that later, ta.

here you go

post in this thread with your phone make & IMEI number and some helpful person will give you an unlock code
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=383930&page=73

cool

i've got the code, how in gods name do i enter it? :(

And before you ask

Safeway Softest White 9 Roll Packs.

so your status

of you having your phone number back is only hypothetical, technically a lie?

Do you want to do lunch tomorrow, i can maybe do 1 if i catch the correct bus - I heard you've been pining after me*

*may be false

Yes

lunch tomorrow. I didn't realise the phone was locked when I changed that, well spotted. Curse you.

I mentioned it

to TheSoundOfAgeing, but he may need reminding
