But Odelay is Beck at his best, Sea Change is also a good album to see the darker more mellow side of Beck. All of them upto Sea Change are worth a listen, Guero and the Information are a bit more patchy but still have some good songs.
Then move on in chronological order. Well thats what I think.
While odelay is probably his best I also really liked mutations, guero and I think midnight vultures is fucking funky as fuck and just brilliant!
There is good stuff on all his records if you ask me!
Somewhere between Of Montreal and Prince. So... pretty much one of my favourite albums and great to dance to. Though I don't think Beck's to found of it.
If it makes you wanna die the get Sea Change and Mutations. If you love it get Odelay, Mellow Gold and The Information.
mentioned One Foot In The Grave yet? I really like that album - Calvin Johnson is on it quite a bit too which sounds interesting next to Beck's voice. But as I think someone already said, there's something good on all of them. One Foot In The Grave, Odelay and Midnite Vultures are my top 3 though I reckon.
1. Oddelay
2. Midnight Vulture
3. One Foot In The Grave
4. Mellow Gold
5. Sea Change
6. Mutations
7. Modern Guilt
8. The Information
9. Guereo
They are all very good mind you, cept Guereo which I never really enjoyed much, The Information is really good if you ignore and delete about 3 or 4 tracks on it.
He's a Scientologist.
Does this answer your question?
How about
you actually post a relevant comment instead of copy/paste from your previous posts.
And for the record, yes, I know he is.
Ha, yeah I know.
The answer is Odelay.
Thanks
Yeah, I'm expecting lots of Odelays, but I thought I'd try and get plenty of opinions and see.
It'll be one of the few times a mass consensus will be spot on.
That album blew my mind when it came out.
Pointless fact:
It was the last album I bought on cassette.
True story....
Cassette?
I like your style.
Yep,
It was available in Woolworths on tape.
In 1996.....
All of them, starting with mellow gold

I noticed
the critics seemed mixed on his past few. So I guess the older stuff it is then. Any opinion on Modern Guilt?
try

Hmm..
Sounds like I'll have lots of listening to do then.
Better get started.

I'm guessing medulla digs midnite vultures....
its only a guess though.
A stellar album makes for a stellar time
I'm thinking
it's a well educated guess
i promise you, Midnite Vultures!
I like most Beck albums, but M.V. is just jaw-droppingly fun and exciting.
Thanks for your enthusiasm
And yes, I'll get myself a copy of midnite vultures asap.
It is a truly brilliant album.
and as you say just so much fun!

...but don't expect them to be as good.
Guero is worth picking up for sure.
Can't believe Beck's not too fond of Midnite Vultures - it's SUPERB!!
...and now your screen name has Hollywood Freaks stuck in my head
Hot milk....
i would write the next line of that, but
i fear people may think i'm trying to publicly cyber sex with you
:D
Replace the information with Guero
Has anyone
mentioned One Foot In The Grave yet? I really like that album - Calvin Johnson is on it quite a bit too which sounds interesting next to Beck's voice. Oh but then there's Mellow Gold....
ok, I can't really do a top 3.
Modern Guilt?
I haven't heard an opinion on it here yet.
very stripped down, less samples, less pop,
more straight-up than most of his other stuff. Worth investigating, but i'd hit Midnite Vultures, Odelay and Guero before it
midnite vultures
is amazing, get that.
MUTATIONS!
Highly overlooked and a fantastic album.
Ok, so
Midnite Vultures, Odelay, and Mutations are what I'm leaning towards.
Keep in mind I'm a poor High Schooler, so I can't just go out and blow my money on the entire discography.
odelay is overrated 90s
bumfluff.
MIDNITE VULTUES IS WHERE ITS AT.
then Sea Change and Mutations.
then Mellow Gold and the early stuff.
then dont bother with anything else.
