Firstly, did anyone ever try it, it was pretty big in the mid-90s before teh internets really kicked off. I used to play and it was ace. I was only a kid but it was tremendously exciting waiting for your results and match report to come through midweek. I think at least three other people in Britain probably played.

Secondly, would anyone be interested in taking part in one? Mail is well better than online, FACT.

my mum's boyfriend does it.

he's got bristol rovers to the premiership! yeah!
i don't really understand it, but i'd like to.

fuck yeah!

i think it's the one twentynine mentions below.
he's always bartering for brazilian youngsters.

I played quite a few

In Off The Post was by far and above my favourite.

and on that note A Bledian Diary

was like THE BEST pbm roleplayer ever. As were some of KJC Games' things like Quest and Monster Island. Phoenix (KJC Games) is a great, free, pbem daily space game too - it's fucking massive.

i played this for a bit

i was bristol rovers and it was well good.
reading those match reports. SO exciting. Phoning up some stranger to see if they'd sell you Marcus Bent, so nervewracking.
my mum would never give me the £1.15 or whatever it was to play though. Yeah actually, what the fuck? why wouldnt she?

same here

I used to see it advertised in Match every week and really wanted to play, but my parents told me it was a 'con' (it was £1 a week ffs) and wouldn't have any of it.

cos it always got "lost in the post"?

my southamton shitted on your team.

every week people phoned me up for le tissier or francis benali.

someone told me that they TOTALLY made all the results up in the office

so it was such fun!

who cares about how it worked.

i was considering for a second then taking it up again, but then realised, champ. dont fucking need to

^ this

I've kept a friend some ten years after I agreed to sell Andreas Herzog to him.

Meat Pie Sausage Roll

I used to play it in high school. Exciting.

i used to do it when i was a kid

got expensive and while i could indulge my geekier side, i think when you've got Football Manager, online Fantasy Football and everything else...it's a bit unappealing these days

I used to do In Off The Post when I was about 14

it was brilliant. I was Middlesbrough.

You'd get some strange northener phoning you: "Hi, I'm manager of Millwall. Can I have Vladimir Kinder for £500k and Sergei Yuran?"

Yes!! Completely forgot...

Had two at one point, I think both with made up team names and players. I remember conducting transfers on the phone speaking to a real human, excitement! I felt like Ron Atkinson (he wasn't a bad man, and manger back in those days)

My father and I used to play the Daily Telegraph one

each week. Was terribly good fun.

Yup...

I was Bayern Munich manager for a while circa 1997 maybe

I used to play In Off The Post

I won a trophy(!) for taking Dynamo Kiev to championship glory. Then it was mid-table obscurity the next year and I got bored.

i played it for a bit

i think that i was vfl bochum in the bundesliga. i gave it up after about a month, much like any other hobby i took up during my early teens.

I did

and was quite successful at it, especially after discovering the cheat whereby you could hyper-train your reserves so their figures went up to near enough maximum and put them on the list, meaning a) you could scare the other managers shitless if that was the sort of player you could afford to sell and b) I always had a large bank balance just in case.

And obviously

someone should find a way to put it online in a non-FM way.

I too was

Bristol Rovers for about a season and a half.

My defence was the absolute business.
