I've listend to the Pixies entire back-catalogue recently, most of it's not very good. There are four of five real standout tracks but the rest's pretty awful. 'Come On Pilgrim' especially is one of the poorest records i've heard.
Yours?

Yours?
How can you say this?
Pixies are excellent.
Frightened Rabbit
The lyrics and his voice are embarassing.
bye xx
(i agree with this...)
Me too!
http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/3278408
me three
they were
also shit live in my opinion, like- real shit.
Hey, I thought I was the only one !
Frightened Rabbit sucked goats at the Windmill.
eh?
There's sweeping statements and then there's just being a moron.
no, cos i am right
No you;re not
The lyrics are OK mostly. Shocking live though.
What, like you?
LOL.
Agree
on lyrics, don't think the voice is THAT embarassing but it is using the currently rather prevalent "sing in a broad colloquial accent to mask inability to actually sing".
Think they are ok but just hugely over-rated in general.
Would say the same of The Twilight Sad. Found the album pretty and powerful in places, though ultimately formulaic and anyone would sound epic with that many layers of noise on their recordings.
(There you go, my reply and a sweeping generalisation all in one!)
I've never heard a whole album
by either Foals or Los Campenisos! and I've never read anything about either that would make me particuarly want to.
Agree with Los Campenisos!
I've listened to a few of their tracks and found them rather annoying.
^what the teacher man said
but add to that list The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Radiohead, The National, Sigur Rós, Nas, Les Savy Fav, Modest Mouse, Bright Eyes, Jay-Z, Biffy Clyro, Justice, and oh so many more.
That felt good.
agreed on everything but bright eyes
Christ,
you're missing out on some good music there.
I stopped listening to Radiohead after Creep.
you = fool
Anyone who likes The Kooks
is a fucking idiot.
Yes!
Absolutely. It's just commercial indie for the massses.
no
they have some good numbers
^this person
likes REAL indie.
Animal collective are mostly not as good as their reputation
ys
So wrong
not even funny
pixies are pretty bad too
as are Pavement
I don't like you anymore
:(
Johnny Foriegner make the stupiedest and shittest music have been unfortunate enough to listen to
*runs*
I spelt stupidest wrong
*face palm*
*foreigner
LOL (at you)
^ lawl
I'll go get my cyanide pills!
i was going to join in with this
until i saw what you said
So twee, so twee.
Only you could be so wrong!
I'm surprised we haven't had a 'whats the best album you've bought in the last 10 years?' thread!!!!
Pavement -
everything that is wrong about indie music
^ Everything that i wrong about a thread about everything that is wrong with indie music.
The Man Who by Travis
is fucking brilliant.
interpol are dull, dul, dull.
l8az pplz.
John Darnielle is still massively overrated
As are The Hold Steady.
Ramones bore me to death
ya
you fucking die
As are Born Ruffians*
:(
HELLO!
Kate Nash looks like a spade
she has very, very bad skin in real life.
I was wondering...
It may just be because I live in a pretty small town where no one is particularly cultured, but are bands like pavement and animal collective really that popular? I mean come on...i was clearly mislead by the title...I came in here to slag off the kaiser chiefs and MCR...
they are popular bands on here...
Pavement in Brighton have a massive fan base
Kate Nash ...
looks all white to me
Radiohead?
?
.
Like The Beatles before them, Radiohead are this generations musical fraud.
The Hold Steady are like over enthusiastic Jehovah's Witnesses shouting rabidly at you-
you just want to shut the door in their faces.
Sufjan Stevens should grow some testicles.
I can sing better than Amy Winehouse
.
but she does
better drugs
The thread I have been waiting my whole life for
pavement are boring.
Pixies, are, I agree, not of much note.
Green day are crap.
The fall are dull, and their songs go on for too long.
Ox.eagle.lion.man are good.
All 90s bands that people are nostalgic about are shit. You were just 15 and enjoying yourself.
scouting for girls are dreadful
(don't hurt me)
Radiohead have no soul.
The singer from scouting for girls has an okay voice.
There are two for starters
Radiohead have 'no soul' but scouting for girls singer has an ok voice?
Do you work for the NME?
martha wainright really aint v good is she
really...
the strokes
aren't very good
the smiths are,but not very very good.
Getting into the spirit of things...
Fleet Foxes are awfully dull.
Death Cab for Cutie are just a more 'indie' coldplay
Joanna Newsom has a very grating voice
I will never understand why people rate the smiths so highly.
^ all of these things
Ditto (Except the smiths)
the marmite of 80's indieness
Fully backed
I hate most of the bland modern coffee table indie type stuff that's everywhere at the moment... I really don't get it. They use this stuff to sell mobile phones?
Oh, and I don't feel the need to wear a cardigan either. They're another thing on the list. Cardigans can suck my balls.
grace kelly by mika
is a good song.
definite high five.
that track
where Craig David "feat" saying Bo Selecta is worth a hundred Cassius's. Top Trump. Bo!
The singer from The Foals (as featured in the hit yoof tv show The Skins)
reminds me of Vic Reeves singing in 'the club style'.
Pink Floyd are shit. . .
boring and self indulgent wank for men in their 40s who are bummed out by how boring their lives are to toke & nod to. Syd Barrett was a dullard. I don't believe anyone who says they rate them. Emperor's New Clothes syndrome.
^ this
Sigur Ros =
only use is as background music for a stroll around MFI looking at pine wardrobes and bidets.
Nooooooooooooooo
ooooooooooooooooooooo *breath* oooooooooooooooooooooooo
My Bloody Valentine aren't a patch on Ride
Ride
ain't a patch on Scissor Sisters.
Never Mind The Bollocks is crap.
pretty much all popular bands are utter shite
why? because the human race is pretty fucking dumb, you included. How many bands that DiS write about this month are even going to be a footnote of the cultural encyclopedia in the year 2108? it happens throughout history - the greats of all disciplines are almost always neglected until decades after they do their work. So board-users, you are all effectively wanking whilst putting across poorly-formed, ignorant and pointless views into this board, mine included, that will all get swallowed up by the abyss most likely. Anyway, it's saturday night, yay hey. Where's that One More Grain record....
I actually very effectively
wank as I post. The tragic, muffled paf-paf-paf/tap-tap-tap keyboard/wank sonic hybrid sounds better than any guff Foals and their rock abacus could sum up (geddit?)
.
This is only a problem if you only listen to music so that in 2108 you can say 'I liked that at the time!!' who cares what the general consensus is going to be in a hundred years, and why is that more important then peoples opinions now?
*wanks*
no
it is the attempt to actually cut through the nonsense and find the true gems, and help them flourish rather than gorge ourselves on undercooked musical cheeseburgers. are you not at all interested in music from 1908? does cultural heritage mean nothing to you? if not, keep on wankin'
its not that
I just don't think that the fact that something won't be remembered means that it has no value.
musical cheeseburgers is a funny image :)
liars are utterly fucking shit
and the lead singer has a very punchable face.
^this
joy division were rubbish
Yip
Joy division really do suck Ian Curtis sucked all the joy out of the world when sang - and despite what everyone says thats a bad thing
Also RATM are average at best and complete hypocrites
animal collective is mostly unlistenable nonsense
.
The Smiths are shit.
Pavement are shit.
Strawberry Jam by Animal Collective is crap, and I'd guess that the rest of their output also is.
Billie Joe Armstrong is a good songwriter and American Idiot was a good album.
Pills 'n' Thrills And Bellyaches is one of the greatest albums of all time.
metallica
are good
Cut Copy
are the musical equivalent of a Sunday afternoon in Homebase with your Dad looking for just the right tile cutter.
Panda Bear is incredibly overrated
and is undeserving of the album of last year (according to Pitchfork)
Oh, and Pink Floyd don't do anything for me. They're just a load of old blokes who argue about money, aren't they?..a bit like how all those old dudes who work in every B&Q do over who gets to serve the pretty girl who's old enough to be their granddaughter..probably.
The old B&Q
geezers do exactly that - I used to work there.
This fucking shithouse Cut Copy album is STILL going. Does it ever stop? Please, it stops at some point, right? It's very clever, though, in the way that it manages, somehow, to generate exactly the same emotional response as a reasonably sane person might feel when their train stops for what seems like eight hours 400 yards from their station. I admire that, at least.
Ohh...it's just stopped! No, fuck, just a big gap between tracks. This is like the longest album ever. Just fucking stop! I could just turn it off, I suppose. I'll do that...
The Police were shite but U2 weren't
People who say various 'classic' albums are actually shit bore me.
Jazz is horrible.
popular bands are good
Pearl Jam
aren't grunge, they're bland arena rock.
Metallica are a sad excuse for a metal band.
AC/DC had zero talent.
etc. etc. etc.
Blur
best British band of all time
AC/DC and Led Zeppelin should have been drowned at birth
