I've decided this is one of my favourite sounds, particularly with liquidy crystalised guitar sounds.
Trying to think of songs with this in..
The God Machine - The Hunter
These Arms are Snakes - Subtle Body
Mogwai - Summer (Priority Version)
any more?
i think
'remember me as a time of day' by explosions in the sky uses bass chords. maybe also 'you only move twice' by jeniferever, but i'm not sure.
...
A lot?
Squarepusher is all about that shit. I Fulcrum is a decent example.
Warrido by Ruins.
Matthew Garrison uses them all the time. Like here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbpxE6ypEyM&feature=related (note: I think the guy playing the table might just be the same geezer who pops up at the end of System of a Down's Toxicity album)
"Wandering Star"
by Portishead
Primus
Les Claypool plays chords on the bass - a 6-string fretless I think.
I play chords on fretless bass (not a 6-string.. that would be a bit over-the-top) on Big Block 454 material...

What's over the top about having a few extra notes?
Lou Barlow
is king of the bass powerchords.
Christmas Steps!
Just about
Dianogah
= bass chords + lots of other good bass stuff and great drummer. Brilliant band.
Back when I were in a band
I used to love busting out some chords on my bass. Mogwai are the absolute kings of finding beautiful bass chords and I'm pretty sure I ripped quite a few from Barry Burns. Explosions use quite a few nice ones too. I'm pretty sure the Jesu bassist hits some fucking sickening chords too, but it's generally a bit hard to distinguish guitar from bass on a Jesu album.
Actually, my favourite sound is when the bass and guitar all play single notes which together form some kind of uber chord. That's always a good 'un.
steely dan peg
the intro chords are tizzight
