No I didn't mean that at all. As the band - Joy Division, they got better as their career progressed. New Order I see as a completely different band. I know its just one man, but... well my rating explains it all.
Ah right, yeah, I agree, new order are terrible. Though NO still see themselves as essentially the same band, at least that's what they said in an interview I read. meh...
In the book about Ian Curtis, his wifes says that apparently they had a discussion and decided that if one of them were too die them they would carry on but under a different name, which is what they've done...and why they do some much Joy Division stuff live.
the beatles were on the up until let it be, which isn't very good at all, and abbey road, which sounds like a disjointed collection of solo songs, and all of the macca ones are pretty awful.
You've got it the wrong way round man! The first one was standard Radiohead copyist stuff with 5 really good songs padded out with filler. However Origin Of Symmetry was a giant leap forward into masterpiece territory and Absolution just followed. Still glad to hear you like Longwave's There's A Fire. What are your fav tracks on it?
Haven't listen to the new Longwave album enough ( too many new albums... ) to have favourite tracks yet, but it's a big improvement for them.
I completely agreed that Muse first album was unoriginal, but since them, they have become nearly unlistenable ( IMHO ).
And they were awful live when i see them.
cedric and omar peaked with the 1st MV album in my opinion. the second one was far too wanky as were the coinciding tour. i walked out of the brixton gig 10 minutes early so i didnt have to catch a late train, which shows how little i was bothered, especially compared to their immense first album show at reading, which was up to that point one of the greatest live shows i thought i'd ever seen.
I was at the Manchester gig and it was the best fucking thing I have ever seen. Who wants to go to a gig and listen to songs as they are on the album? You might as well just not bother.
yeh but the first album is better than the second because as well the tunes being extremely intricate and clever they also had some sense of structure, rathere than being a solid mass of pure wankery with no sense of control. didnt someone interesting say its all about the notes you don't play, rather than the oens you could? 2 hours of pure solos just did my head in.
I would say the first album is better, but I wouldn't call their live tour a display of wankery. Admittedly on Frances the Mute I got bored listening to four minutes of birdsong at the end of L'Via L'arquez (or whatever). But seeing how they could develop music live off the top of their heads was amazing.
A Silver Mt Zion constantly impress me. Every lp is very progressive in its music style and the incorporation of singing into all the tracks makes them even tighter as a band in their own right. Every release of theirs is highly anticipated and never disapointing.
I also lost interest in Muse after Showbiz. I almost fell asleep watching Belamy masturbate the keys at Glasto 04.
The Mars Volta - well, Cedric and Omar, peaked on the first album. The second one was just too wanky and self indulgent. It was a good album but it lost itself among attempts to pad out songs for longer than they had to. And live, they're great, but they've lost the rabid energy they used to have, the Electric Ballroom was a classic show - the Brixton shows, while good, were not.

Its a shame though. Hearing lil' fat Bernard trying to go deep enough to get Transimission. He ends up just going into his throat.
Its like the Beatles going on without Lennon, but making it twice as bad (Paul and George could sing).
