who actually feels they're on their way to or are fulfilling their career goals.
i don't like the way how colleges and sixth forms paint the world as being your oyster when a really hardcore proffessional boston legal job isn't for everyone.
also who would never have thought that they would end up where or how they are today.
Since I qualified I've seen my knowledge and expertise increase immeasurably, and at the same time I've seen my responsibiites increase also. I feel like I'm going somewhere.
It might take me a long time to get to the top, and my job can be pretty tedious sometimes, but not a day goes by when I don't feel like I've learnt something new.
I'm kinda lucky, I guess. It doesn't make me feel superior in any way, just fortunate. But at the end of the day, as long as someone's happy and they're able to have a life outside of the office, that's all that matters, right?
Even if i had get-up-and-go i'd rather travel around, doing unskilled jobs in different countries, meeting interesting people or doing something i loved, than burying my head in books for years, getting a well-paid but ultimately tedious profession and working my bollocks off just so when i pop my clogs my kids have got a bit of cash. I think that's backwards.
i think part of it is to do with social standing aswell. People feel by the time they reach a certain age they are expected to have a career or be aiming towards something unless they are a failure. Ultimately you should aim towards doing something that is worthwhile or something that you enjoy. tbh i have a career of sorts but i prefer to focus my energies on things non work related.
I think a lot of people need to keep trying things before they find something they like aswell. Most of the people i've met with well-paid jobs haven't studied for years or don't work in white-collar professions. Sometimes it's just a case of exploring until you get a break. People also put too much emphasis on youth aswell. Even if you find a well-paid career you're unlikely to earn massive money in it until your thirties, maybe older, so why go into them as soon as you leave college/uni. I'd much rather fuck about until my late twenties and then look at it.
and I'm lucky its one I love. I've spent the last 18 months on temp contracts but when I start my new job in October I intend to make it my career path. It'll take me ages to actually work to the top, but everyday is a new experience and a new challenege and I can't wait :)
fuck that. i'm quite happy pissing around with just enough money for records and booze, with no responsibilities whatsoever. i'm sure in a few years i'll have a big meltdown and start screaming "ARGH WHAT THE FUCK HAVE I DONE WITH MY LIFE ARGH" but i'll cross that bridge when i come to it.
I'm an 'Advanced Skills Teacher' now. Woo. Go me. I have really tried to avoid going into school management though, I can think of nothing I'd hate more than being a Deputy Head.
On a side note I think I need to start a new account, I feel that I waffle on about my teaching (and the music I inflict on my classes) too much and it is overtaking my 'DiS Personna'. Having a username that is rooted in my job (career?) doesn't really help.
I have one for sale
Just give me your soul and its all yours
Shotgun
I'm actually semi-excited about my future.

you're asking in the wrong place?
thats true

I'd like to think that I have a career.
I don't have a PhD though, sorry.
what i meant was
who actually feels they're on their way to or are fulfilling their career goals.
i don't like the way how colleges and sixth forms paint the world as being your oyster when a really hardcore proffessional boston legal job isn't for everyone.
also who would never have thought that they would end up where or how they are today.
I do, kinda
Since I qualified I've seen my knowledge and expertise increase immeasurably, and at the same time I've seen my responsibiites increase also. I feel like I'm going somewhere.

what do you do?
Er, I'm an Architect
It's nothing flashy or that, but it is interesting. Well, I find it interesting, I doubt most people would.
I think it's really interesting actually
even though I understand not every day is spent designing the Gherkin.
I think that I wanted to be a farmer or a vet
or a marine biologist
I have a carer
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays she brings a virtual reality headset to simulate being in a supermarket to help treat my agoraphobia.
Life's too short to be too career-minded.
Thats what I thought before
but now I am trying to merge the two together, like be able to travel around the world and still earn decent mullah!
^^

Absolutely.

i'm dangerously close.
to starting what may be a career on Monday. scary!
doing what?
YES - thanks.
not sure
I could have easily as I enjoy what I'm doing & seem to be doing quite well at it.
I am thinking of changing though, or at least aiming it towards something more linked to my MA
yes
and I'm lucky its one I love. I've spent the last 18 months on temp contracts but when I start my new job in October I intend to make it my career path. It'll take me ages to actually work to the top, but everyday is a new experience and a new challenege and I can't wait :)
11 yrs into
my career.
Moved numerous times in the same organisation and each time its been forward, progressive and an eye opener.
Sort of, but not really.
I can't see me doing the job I have now a couple of years ago, at least.
nah
fuck that. i'm quite happy pissing around with just enough money for records and booze, with no responsibilities whatsoever. i'm sure in a few years i'll have a big meltdown and start screaming "ARGH WHAT THE FUCK HAVE I DONE WITH MY LIFE ARGH" but i'll cross that bridge when i come to it.
Yup.
Process Engineer, Oil and Gas, North Sea.
well yeah actually
