The Good Ship, Kilburn

Hello

Just wondering if anyone on here has been to this venue as a punter, played there or promoted there?

We're hopefully going to put on a gig there later in the year and I'm just curious to hear people's feed back about the place in general.

Thanks

  • It's ok

the stage is in a sort of pit and there's not all that much room in front. People hang over railings at the sides. It's quite good if you get a spot, but it does mean if you get there late you can't really see what's going on at all.

Also, there are people on crack wandering about outside, and some people nicked my friend's bag last time we went, with a drink-spilling scam thingy.

  • Yes. Several times.

The sound is dreadful. Seen various different sorts of genres of music there too. Unless you're directly in front of the pit, the sound is distorted and awful.

That said, I like the venue. The people and staff are generally friendly and it has a bit of character. Could do worse.

  • they have

Discovery and Honeydew in bottles for sale! what more could you want!

ahem, it's not a great venue and it's a very weird set up (stage low in a pit and people dangling over the sides) but apparently it's very cheap to book and the people are friendly

  • more importantly

is there anywhere round there to park a van? i'm playing in a couple of weeks.

    • there

is free parking around the side of the venue after 5.30.
i think its a cool venue. put a few nights on there, staff are really friendly and helpful. i'd suggest bringing yr own soundman though...

  • I played a gig there once..

probably a year ago now. it was like a quiet sunday night thing so we didn't use the stage area. nice vibez in there though all round.

not sure about space for a van, kilburn high road is pretty wide though if memory serves, so i would expect that you could park infront for a while if you wanted to take all your stuff out there. i could be wrong though.

  • my friend

drunkenly fell off a stool in there last week and faceplanted.

  • It's lovely inside

I saw a small acoustic show, they played in the bar section, not at the back, very intimate, twinkly lighting etc. Really horrible road though!

    • we..

played there was the most awfull london gig ever.

      • the promoters

there seem really hard-working. they are one of the few london venues to regularly send out listings/info about who they're booked and actually seem to know something about the bands they've booked and care about coherent bills etc!

        • cool

hard working people run it but I find the cavernous structure and design of the room (plus the lack of any carpet) tends to make loud bands sound poo. Otherwise, one of the better places to play.

        • it can certainly get a good crowd on a Friday or Saturday

not a massive fan of the overall stage layout, but it can work as long as there's a good crowd. The people who are running it seem safe, but I think bands are mostly paid on how many people they bring.

          Overall, decent venue

          • actually

the bands get all the money from the door, not in a get "you must bring 20 people before you see any money" kind of way
