Penguin Cafe Orchestra

Not sure if this will get any replies, but anyone else fans of these guys?

  • AAAAAA!!!

there's a piece of music I heard ages ago and really liked and I've been trying to find it for ages and ages and it's been driving me mad but I think I recognise the name and I think it's by them!

    .... yes this is it

thank you. I have been humming that unsuccessfully at people for years.

    • I didn't know they did the music for Napoleon dynamite either

      i like.

      • I prefer the original version on Broadcasting from Home

but I've been listening to that album for years thanks to my mum so it's natural.

  • Massive fan of Broadcasting from Home

I guess Napoleon Dynamite will have given them a bit of a boost?

  • The albums got reissued this week

so I may look into getting one or two of them.

  • Ive got four albums

theyre quite cheap these days. Excellent stuff, like a more 80's belle orchestre or summat. Although I am a bit sick of hearing 'music for a found harmonium' everywhere.

  • Really lame name.

    • Your name would be better if you were TheSoundofPenguins

  • One of my favourites....

Used to have a tape with Broadcasting from Home and another album on it that got played all the time i nthe car when I was a kid... Still love it now. The late Simon Jeffe was a minimalist genius, which makes it a real pity that so much of his music has been used for bank adverts and car adverts and... well, you get the picture.

  • Love em.

    You are not alone. :)

    • Wonderful

Penguin Cafe Primer is a good Best Of, the self-titled album probably my favourite of the regular albums.
True about being ruined by ads - I got into them shortly before Telephone & Rubber Band got co-opted as a T-Mobile ad, and I really can't hear that now without thinking of mobiles.
Really regret not seeing them in '94 when I had the chance.
