Rough Trade East - for widest selection and back catalogue
Sister Ray - for recent releases
Pure Groove - for instores
Flashback - for second hand and promos
sister ray is quite nice but that tall guy with that thing in his ear is a real twat. the others are quite nice in there.
rough trade west is quite a nice place, nicer staff than east but east is a good space, great to spend an afternoon in.
the new pure groove isn't too great for shopping but great for instores.
the one that use to be reckless on berwick street (can't remember the name), and the record and video exchange shops (notting hill, greenwich, berwick st.)
for new stuff maybe fopp. not sure.
Me and my best friend used to go there religiously pretty much every day when we were about 15. There are few places in the world that I love more than Beanos in fact
i reckon its seriously rubbish though and overpriced. my friend reckons if you spend 3585897598475 hours looking in the zillions of 7"s and stuff upstairs you can find some good stuff. hmm.
use to be quite good when it had the diner upstairs. its overpriced nowadays. Shake Some Action on the same street was the best record shop in croydon, probably london.
a few years ago. Beanos is still going but is only one floor now and has regular sales so the prices aren't too bad. Memory Lane in Croydon is good for 60s stuff.
and I also like BLACKMARKET who have always been super duper nice to me.. and was the first record shop I stepped into way back when I first arrived in London.
is pure groove any good now? The old shop was pretty ace...they had a great range of sevens- but I've heard they're only selling 100 records or something at their new place, which sounds a bit far fetched...
only 100 items, and the selection doesn't change that much from week to week, so there is no need to visit more than once every couple of months. They have a great line-up of instore gigs though ...
It's perfect for me because all I buy is 7" singles, and they have the best range anywhere. They don't keep too tightly to the 'only 5 records at a time' rule either, so it's easy to take a great stack over to the decks, including stuff you'd never heard of before, and give it a spin.
Admittedly I've not been to the new puregroove, but I thought the old one that everyone said was so good was totally overrated. Sister Ray is rubbish for 45's.
is so shit. worst record shop ever.
that my bloody valentine photo exhibition was bullshit. like 8 photos at most? what kind of an exhibition is that!? and they only had 100 records - what a stupid selection. and the majority of it is shit and new and every record store has it anyways, doesn't need to exist.
ebay
..
Pure Groove (for it looks nice) (for instores)?
Sound 323 and the one above / below it (for they stock good things)?
i think
new = Rough Trade East
2nd hand = Notting Hill mve
has to be
pure groove!
This:
Rough Trade East - for widest selection and back catalogue
Sister Ray - for recent releases
Pure Groove - for instores
Flashback - for second hand and promos
Rough Trade east for me
then Sister Ray
I HATE Rough Trade EAST.
Everything is too expensive and I want my record stores to be dark places with no light and ventilation!
I've only been to fopp and sister ray
Both were far too $$$$$! Sister Ray especially. They both had nice staff though, and SR probably had the best selection of releases.
fopp in covent garden is terrible

"he one that use to be reckless on berwick street"
Revival Records
I really liked that one
It's a solid little shop, decent selection, decent prices, excellent knowledge from the old guy who served me.
cheers
its good.
Sounds of the Universe
is pretty fly
^this
although it wasn't really my thing - i enjoyed a good rake through.
SECOND LAYER
By far the best shop in London.
Phonica and Sounds of the Universe are close behind though.
Oh and for second hand stuff.
Flashback at Crouch End or Essex Road is pretty good.
I haven't been
.. to a record shop in town since Selectadisc closed down.
Outside of town my favourite is The Rock Box in Camberley.
I really miss The Record Shop in Kingston though. Used to be in there all the time.
There's a good little one in Kingston
that does shows as well... Banquet Records. Good little place, bit out in the sticks though.
That used to be
Beggar's Banquet.
It was the Indie shop whilst TRS was the Rock/Metal shop.
Overalls are great
Everyone should wear them.
you hate London and Londoners don't you
the straps on overalls chafe my nipples
they are wrong!
Oh, now I get it (best OVERALL record store)
haha
sister ray's prices aren't that cheap
are they? i've not been for a while.
rough trade east has friendly staff. haven't visited the new pure groove yet.
I miss my
selectadisc :-(
Sister Ray is NOT cheap - I'd much rather go to MVE or SOTU
Rough Trade is still cool enough
what happened to that place up Camden High St? is it still there?
Thought they were quite good price-wise for old back cat stuff
Less so on new releases. It was cheaper when it was Selectadisc... them were the days.
probably music and video exchange...
i can't decide which one i like more though...Camden, Notting Hill or Berwick St. All have been the home for many a bargin over the years for me.
Beanos in Croydon.
.
Yes yes yes!
Me and my best friend used to go there religiously pretty much every day when we were about 15. There are few places in the world that I love more than Beanos in fact
Is Beanos still going?
I misspent much of my school holiday time in there
yeah
i reckon its seriously rubbish though and overpriced. my friend reckons if you spend 3585897598475 hours looking in the zillions of 7"s and stuff upstairs you can find some good stuff. hmm.
beanos
use to be quite good when it had the diner upstairs. its overpriced nowadays. Shake Some Action on the same street was the best record shop in croydon, probably london.
Shake Some Action was demolished
a few years ago. Beanos is still going but is only one floor now and has regular sales so the prices aren't too bad. Memory Lane in Croydon is good for 60s stuff.
^
notting hill is best yo
SOUNDS OF THE UNIVERSE
zing
i don't know about
SOTU...nice selection but too limited for me. And those prices! :0
the limitation
is what makes it. limitation otherwise known as specialisation.
um
intoxica
second layer
rough trade west
sister ray
these are my favourites. music and video exchanges are also worth a look.
phonica
rough trade
my two favourites
^^^^^^^ PHONICA
and I also like BLACKMARKET who have always been super duper nice to me.. and was the first record shop I stepped into way back when I first arrived in London.
flashback!!
second layer is awesome for content but pricey. like seriously dude cassette tapes arent worth £7. ever.
and rough trade has gone really really bad.
HMV oxford circus
ahem...just thought id throw that into the mix
bf

strange idea...I'll go and check it out sometime though.
Got to be rough trade east

best range
anywhere???? Shurely shome mishtake.
Are you gonna suggest something better?
Admittedly I've not been to the new puregroove, but I thought the old one that everyone said was so good was totally overrated. Sister Ray is rubbish for 45's.
the new Pure Groove
does not have an extensive selection of 7" singles, maybe about 40 to 50 different ones.
Sister Ray
out of the few i've been to. Could send stupif amounts of money in there!
pure groove
is so shit. worst record shop ever.
that my bloody valentine photo exhibition was bullshit. like 8 photos at most? what kind of an exhibition is that!? and they only had 100 records - what a stupid selection. and the majority of it is shit and new and every record store has it anyways, doesn't need to exist.
BANQUET RECORDS
great instores
great people
and a wide selection in such a small shop
