Dug this out again recently after neglecting it for far too long. Had forgotten what a fantastic record it is! Their best in my opinon.

Made me realise that their albums after 'Ladies and Gentleman...' are actually pretty average in comparison. Good in their own way though of course.

Great record

Not sure if I agree it's better than Ladies and Gentlemen though.

The only Spiritualized record I'm not overly keen on is Amazing Grace.

It is a pretty good record

especially Run and Step Into the Breeze. Maybe their second best album overall.

I still think Let It Come Down is sorely underrated though.

Ladies and Gents is clearly the best

but Lazer Guided Melodies is a really, really great album, so deep and rich and hypnotic

Compare it to the sound/production on Let It Come Down (ridiculously overbearing and cramped and generally unpleasant) and be blown away

spaceman

it's my favourite.

after lazer guided melodies and pure phase they got a bit overblown and pompous, the only thing that makes his other records listenable is his songwriting. still not even a scratch on spacemen 3.

sonic

of course none of sonic boom's have been classics and maybe he hasn't progressed as much but at least he kept the concept of minimalism and the psychedelic sounds of spacemen through his solo material

Here's me being difficult

It's alright.....I just much preferred Spacemen 3. To me, it doesn't touch the Perfect Prescription.

I don't have any real time for Spiritualized because of the "Overblown and pompus" thing mentioned above.

RIGHT, I'm off to dodge a hail of bullets. Bye.

I see what you mean....

'Let It Come Down' is massively overdone but it does have some gems in there - 'Straight & Narrow', 'Stop Your Crying', 'Lord Can You Hear Me'.

I just love 'Lazer Guided Melodies' trance like quality and the way it works so beautifully as a whole album. Its not the sort of record to play on shuffle!

I've not actully hears a great deal of Spaceman 3 material but like what i've heard. What album should i go for?

Playing With Fire

Or The Perfect Prescription are the best places to strat with Spacemen 3 I'd say.

Lazer guided melodies

is the best spiritualized album for me.

I used to play in a band with Rosco from Spacemen, nearly ended up playing for spiritualized too.

Taking Drugs To Make Music To Take Drugs To

or Sound Of Confusion for me as far as Spacemen 3 are concerned. Would have to go with Ladies & Gentlemen... being by far the best Spiritualized record though.

i agree with finchleydisco

i much prefer spacemen 3... but lazer guided is my favourite spiritualized album.. it's probably in my top 10 albums of all time.
