it took me a long time to realise it; in fact, it took seeing them live last year and watching the band perform tracks off this album with incredible power. And it wasn't the singles either, I'm talking about 'NARC' and 'Take You on a Cruise' and 'Not Even Jail'.
It was always going to be difficult to follow up such an incredible debut record as 'Turn on the Bright Lights' 2001's sleeper hit and was mostly ignored due to their OTHER New York indie pop peers of the time and THEIR fairly revolutionary record 'Is This It?' but they did. Interpol's follow up record is a stunning piece which, although may not have matched the dizzying atmosphere of their debut, easily managed to make up for in big choruses and cleverly written pop songs rivaling Sonic Youth or The Smiths, shame Arcade Fire's 'Funeral' was just around the corner eh?

Hmmm
I've never been convinced by this record. It's really crying out for an 'NYC' or a 'Untitled' to lift it above average for me and is easily the worst of the three Interpol albums.
No way
Their latest is not better than antics
'Not Even Jail'
is an ace tune, but I aint really fussed either way about Interpol, I can take or leave them.
It is really really good
Take You On A Cruise in particular. That and PDA might be their best songs.
i really really love this record
Slow Hands is my fave song on this album!
It's not really underrated though is it?
I've Always Liked It
and I've never understood people's problems with it. Yes its a little poppier than TOTBL and there's a little less variation in the songs themselves, but everything Interpol do on that album is done to a high standard.
i found it pretty boring
i was a fan of turn on the bright lights but this shit didn't move me at all.
Interpol are criminally overrated IMO.
<exits stage left before the hurling of tomatoes from the crowd>
it is not underated.
by any stretch of the imagination...
^ this
i thought most people liked it, especially compared to Our Love To Admire
Yer, always considered Interpol to be a
great 1st album, great 2nd album, meh 3rd album band.
+ Not Even Jail is the best thing they've done I reckon.
