Slayer to split after next record?
Posted: 21 Jul '08, 13:15
Tom Araya, frontman of Slayer, has been talking about how long the band can continue after their next album, their last with heavyweight rock producer Rick Rubin.
You were quoted a while ago as saying that after the next Slayer album you would have to discuss whether to continue as a band. Are you really going to talk about winding up the band?
“Yeah. Let’s put it this way, this is the final record of our commitment with Rick Rubin. When we first signed a deal with him back in 1986, we never sat down and said, ‘How long do you guys want to keep this together?’”
Araya also talks about the third Unholy Alliance tour, upon which they have taken Trivium, Mastodon and Amon Amarth along for the ride.
He defends the fact they have decided to take some more established acts on the road rather than using their position of superior metal beings to help unearth some of the world’s hottest metal talent by explaining that those bands really help to put bums on seats.

DiScuss: Slayer are massive sell-outs, yeah? Can they actually sell tickets on their own any more? Trivium are really shit though. Aren't they? Amon Amarth are the worthiest support act.

should've
taken rolo tomassi, obv.
-
Amon Armarth
are gonna bring the metal. In the form of non-stop hair milling for half an hour. They pretty much are Dethklok the band.
I hope Slayer don't split up though, I think one of their biggest selling points is not having any of the drama that other premier metal bands in their league have.
-
God yeah
Trivium are fucking awful. I'd expect slayer to eat them for breakfast.

: (((((((((((
amon amarth are alright but mastodon are amazing. trivium are very terrible but slayer aren't the first band to have a shit support act
-
about time i say
Metallica should probably follow suit, then they can come together under whatever name and write the country/folk music they're so obviously more interested in.
-
Hmmm
I will love it if Slayer keep going - but only if it's the original line-up and they can find a producer of Rubin's class...maybe Martin Birch can be eased outta retirement?!
Metallica should have knocked it on the fuckin' head after '...And Justice For All'...
Support Act: Dump Trivium and either reform the orginal Sepultura line-up or get Machine Head in there.
-
fuck that
bring back slipknot.
-
Slayer are probably my favourite band ever
after Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band. I DON'T WANT THEM TO STOP.
I might go to this Trivium/Mastodon/Slayer show, but miss out the Trivium bit. Because they are massively shit.

^
That seems to be what everyone I know that is going is planning to do...
...Watch a bit of Mastodon, head to the bar for a few beers, then head back to the floor for some ruckus.
-
i don't get the love for the original Sepultura line-up
I mean i LOVE Sepultura but if anything they've actually released better albums since Max left than Max has.
-
I guess thrash heads
probably think Slayer are the be all and end all, but I have been listening to them since 1989 and every album has 1 maybe two great tracks if you're lucky and the rest is just pedal note filler.
I think in the grand scheme of things thrash is limited, look at how metallica evolved over the 2 decades they have been going, people slate 'tallica for deviating but it has at least kept them fresh regardless of what the opinion may be of what they are putting out.
