Favourite song/album?
I'm kinda obsessed with Hunky Dory right now, Andy Warhol is pretty much one of my favourite songs ever.

Oh! You Pretty Things / 1. Outside
.
Suffragette City
Queen Bitch
Ziggy Stardust
With Hunky Dory and Diamond Dogs not far behind. Pretty standard answer I suppose, although there's a lot of love for Low on these here boards...
As for favourite song, Life on Mars methinks.
yeah
i'm pretty sure Life On Mars? is one of the best songs ever written
Teenage Wildlife/Hunky Dory
HD is the greatest record ever made. Followed closely by every other RCA bowie record.
Warszawa/Low
love the low
I don't have any Bowie albums
I am rubbish :(. My favourite song is 'Blue Jean' though.
Drive-in Saturday / Ziggy Stardust
sorry to be so obvious. I like Low very much too
Low
But that's the only album of his I've heard.
What would people say are the essential albums?
I have:
Aladdin Sane
"Heroes"
Hunky Dory
Low
Station to Station
Ziggy Stardust
Tin Machine.
Only joking! Probably Ziggy or Low.
My top five
1. Low
2. Ziggy
3. Heroes
4. Huny Dory
5. Station To Station
But I pretty much love all his stuff, aside from the 84-91 era. 'Let's Dance' is a brilliant pop album.
Hunky Dory..
..is my favourite album of all time. That shouldn't be interesting though as I'm just another cunt.
I'm listening to Let's Dance a lot.
I got it on tape for my kitchen. Three good songs, 1 okay song and then four preposterous awul 80s songs that are bizarrely compelling on side b.
I think David Bowie is largely a singles man.
I get into a lot of arguements about that. Only Ziggy Stardust and Hunky Dory strike me as being consistent. I think his body of multiple decade spanning pop single success speaks a lot more clearly about what he is and the impact he's had.
low and heroes
being the obvious exceptions
LOw is patchy as fuck and even people that like it recognise that dude.
Time to renew that Ritalin prescription . . .
People that like it regonise that Low is a consistently arresting, involving and exhilarating sonic journey. From its start ("Speed of Life" - the sound of the future blaring out of the window of a passing car) to its finish("Subterraneans" - something between a hymn and the music Brian Eno heard in his hospital bed.)there's not a track on it that didn't - at the very least - fail to change the course of Western popular music in the 1970's.
I think a little more Ritalin and a little less writing for you, dude.
I agree with cassiel's assessment of Low
I listened to Low, Heroes and Lodger one after the other at the weekend, God I'd forgotten how great they are.
agreed
except for 'lodger', which sounds like a rushed job for the most part.
lies!
The Man Who Sold The World, 1 Outside, Diamond Dogs... all totally cogherent albums. I can see why you get into lots of arguments regarding your stance! Bravely proposed idea tho.
I've typed many a bowie praise here
So seeing my g/f is a cunt and I'm in the mood... I'm gonna spend some time on where it all went wrong...
Starting with Lat's Dance. Fucking rubbish. Mr Brainlove sez 3 good songs? Which? Title track is ok at best, criminal world is ok, the giorgio moroder cat people is way better... I dunno, bowie used to be able to pick great guitarists for himself, but Stevie Ray Vaughn doesn't work. Later he'll really fucked up with Reeves Gabrels but that's getting ahead of myself.
Tonight. Other than God Only Knows Cover! it's fucking garbage.
Never Let Me Down. When I saw Bowie on roller skates in that video I wanted to pour sulfuric acid on my face.
Tin Machine. 2 dreadful albums that weren't as dreadful as people say...but still dreadful. 1 good song but not good enough that I can remember the name.
Night Flights. His album for Aman. Yeah, whatever. The Jump single was good ...sorta.
Outside. Not a patch on his 70s stuff of course, but thank god he's back! Lots of great tunes here. "Stranger When We Meet" is such a great line, Billy Corgan steals it 5 years later.
Earthling. Listening to NIN can't be a good idea...and this is proof. Dead Man Walking is only good track.
Hours. Even when he was terrible Bowie wasn't boring...now he's boring too. Urgh!
(then what...? Heathen maybe)
Heathen. Really good record. Totally underrated. The Pixies Cactus cover is great but not even best track. Score! 8/10.
Reality. Ah, not bad. Pablo Picasso and Fall Dog Bombs are pretty good.
But other than All The Young Dudes, and the disco version of John, I'm Only Dancing... everything in the 70s was pure bliss for me.
One last thing
on extra Heathen disc, for fans: Bowie redoes Conversation Piece and tis incredible...like really really really good.
What about
The Buddha of Suburbia? - I've never heard it
I heart bowie
Yeah to Heathen! It is a great record.
As to the older stuff - too much choice. Fave song or album? I just can't do it.
For any big fans, you must see the
Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars: The Motion Picture [1973]
Fantastic shots at Hammersmith with Angie...superb for all real Bowie fans....
Also, Bowie at the Beeb. Fell in love with the floppy haired freak all over again!
Low is the best
It's perfect pop one half great brooding ambient soundscapes the other. Actually new job, new town is quite upbeat.
Bats Over The Pacific Ocean
just kidding
obvsz
Hunky Dory / Quicksand
Perfect
Heathen = best post 70s Bowie album
in my book! Thoroughly depressing of course, but in a Burroughs dystopian way. He knew it too - and promoted the album very personally by saying it was his best in donkeys years.
Is he well enough to make a new LP yet? I heard from a solid source he was at Glastonbury this year watching a few acts.
D-Dogs / Chant of the Ever Circling Skeletal Family
move it up, move it up!
I think mine might be
Hunky Dory too, or possibly Aladdin Sane. Actually, Ive realised that I will keep revising this, so theres no point. Andy Warhol is a great song though, but each of those last four tracks are all quite special. I seem to remember Queen Bitch having a lot of love on here, which I like. Aladdin Sane does have a real swagger, which I also like. But Id be inclined to agree with OceanRain in that, apart from Scary Monsters (which is one of my favourite Bowie albums...), I really only love the 70s stuff (in terms of albums). But there is so many isolated tracks afterwards that he just throws off that are stunning. I cant forsee a point in my life where I'll ever get tired of listening to him.
*are so many
oh yeah
and are they sychronising ads with threads or what?
Queen Bitch / Hunky Dory
anyone heard
santa monica 72?
Life On Mars live is pretty cool.
Diamond Dogs, Diamond Dogs, Diamond Dogs
you fools....
*
song : either Breaking Glass or Sound & Vision
album : Low
Suffragette City
is a sexy ole bastard of a tune.
You're not wrong

Favourite Bowie song: Always Crashing in the Same Car
Favourite Bowie album: Low
---
Favourite Bowie song: Cracked Actor.
It's just so sleazy!
Favourite Bowie album: Heathen
The Bowie album I come back to most often.
He's my hero...
[/sigh]
Nobody's said "Lodger"
So, Lodger!
My fave song is probably Blackout from "Heroes". Singles artist my arse.
"Heroes",
obvs choice, but a cracking album. Also, "Beauty and the Beast" from the album is an awesome tune.
David Bowie is an incredible human being / Martian Alien.
