sounded like some mad scientists locked in a basement writing futuristic dark pop. Their album sounds like a bunch of teenagers playing Smash Hits magazine fodder.
hah
An actuLOL already, and it isn't even 11am.
I wonder if they can unmake what they made?
LOL^
Haha
Was just about to post this.
Utterly bizarre in the sense that they give no justification for it; it's not like the Jet review, because they bummed the EP. I don't like the band, but I'd have found a proper review with the same score infinitely more interesting. Seems a bit reactionary to me.
Reactionary is right
I mean, the album pretty mediocre to me, but a 0.0?
Someone was in a real bad mood I guess.
Try and search for that EP review
or even just "Black Kids".
No results. A little bit of arsecovering here...
I just noticed that too!
It does come up on a Google search though. You can't hide from me Pitchfork!
That's not unusual actually
Pitchfork's search seems to be really screwed up. I haven't been able to get a hit on anything since they got the new layout.
was just about to post that myself...i mean the album is so badly produced but 0.0 is just silly!
They aren't trying, the search function is botched.
.
Is the 'Everybody Makes Mistakes' comment
on the home page a reference to the ep score?
I'd assume so
Surely it's a reference to
their hyping of black kids originally?
yes
I think that equates to the same thing
MUSIC REVIEWING SHOULD BE REACTIONARY
IT IS A WRITER REACTING TO A PIECE OF MUSIC.
this is also pretty funny.
DAMN!
Got to hurt.
I would like more reasons for the low(est) score but I knew PFork were going to do a backtrack on this band. Didn't think they'd to it this dramatically/hilariously, but whatever.
that is great
Haha :')
I might get po-faced about how this
could possibly do damage to a very young band's career, and that treating this whole thing as a joke is pretty bad, and that the album is at least worth a 1 or 2.
Or I might just not let stuff like this get to me.
If P'fork can be held largely responsible for 'making' this band, then can they be held for 'breaking' them? The world (the internet) is a far more fickle place than when NME played build-'em-up-knock-'em-down with Jesus Jones.
I don't think this is going to break them as such
Yeah Pitchfork was probably responsible for their early success but now they get played on daytime radio 1. I don't think most people who hear 'I'm not gonna teach your boyfriend' on the radio are going to know or care what some website says and will just buy the album regardless.
Sorry, I missed that, I was dancing to International Bright Young Thing.
You're probably right. Just seems very fickle though. From 'Best New Band Ever!!!' to 'Worst Album Ever!!!' in the space of about 6 months. Impressive work.
pointless
whether they like it or not they should at least do a review saying why rather than a oh so hilarious picture and zero rating. Bunch of spengs.
^^ This
Was expecting an entertaining read. Not a lame as fuck picture.
its
not even a funny picture
or maybe i dont get it
i dunno
whatever
Terrible band
not finding that as funny as the Jet review though.
What is the piicture of?
The new lay-out doesn't agree with my computer for some reason, so it won't show it.
2 sad looking dogs,
and it reads 'sorry :-/' above them.
that's strange
the old layout didn't agree with my work computer and I never got images. But now everything is present
wanky move by wanky website that no-one really cares about.
I've heard this, it's not possible for it to be given less than a 5.
wanky move by wanky website that a hell of a lot of people care about
Is what you mean. The album is diabolical.
that wasn't the DiS review.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!
people care about DiS!
one time i saw this band play an nme gig at the astoria, and the singer was all like "DiS r00lZ!"
no cares about?
i strongly disagree with that. as much as you don't like the reviews or write ups, it's pretty much the most influential music site out there. eva. and it's possibly for 2 seperate people from the same website to have 2 seperate opinions on the same band/music.
and oh yeah, blacks kids are pap.
the end.
Black Kids are shit, i completely agree...
but not reviewing the record and giving it no score's pathetic.
They've also changed the teaser line on the front page
from "Everybody makes mistakes!", which was way better. I wonder how many angry emails they got from the label before the decision to edit was made...
They changed it!
Bottle merchants.
^ this
at least the image is still there
I Just Noticed
that the writer credited in the "review" is different. This is all a bit odd....
all this changing shows that pitchfork has no balls.
wouldn't be surprised
if they removed the image next and wacked a proper review up. does all seem a bit weird
it doesn't make sense anymore
i love Pitchfork.
fuck the h8ters.
Arrogant
Sixth-form style "aren't we clever?". And it's going to look like a pretty stupid stunt in about five seconds flat.
And I've gotta ask, just what is so wrong with the record anyway? I just don't get it. I really liked it, and I'm baffled by the general critical reaction. Excuse me, but what about the five or six solid gold tunes on there?
this will just make...
people go omgg they're rubbish and not make a formal opinion from listening to them.
ive listened to them found them rubbish.
formal opinion plz
It'd only be funny if anyone actually gives a shit
about Pitchfork. I don't. Therefore, I don't give a shit.
That is embaressing
Even for Pitchfork.
Are they gonna try and rewrite history now? We didn't really like all those lame indie bands we gave 8.3 to 6 months ago and were actually collecting Hozac gold editions.
?
the rating has now gone up to 3.33
this is genuinely terrible
everything about it, from the changing of the score and writer to the mass turnaround in opinion with no reasoning (other than some indier than thouism and possible mainstream attention disowning) to the use of a pathetically unfunny lolfaildogwhatevs for the internet crowd
this is the sort of thing P4K got their reputation for. I thought they'd moved away from that and had just settled into a dull little rut of mediocrity but no, now they're Everything That's Wrong With The Internet again. Sweet
Maybe it'll slowly creep up all day
Before settling on an unexplained 10.0
I can't beleive how seriously some people are taking this
I have not heard this album but do you know what? I suspect it is not very good and a rating of 0.0 or 5.0 does not affect how much I want to hear it.
I still like Pitchfork and I still think there ratings are the most accurate source for new music.
I like PFK too
But I find their ratings puzzling - there's not reason to them, so to publish a review that has only a rating without any context I find annoying.
I like Black Kids, and I like the album. I don't particularly care about what Pitchfork gives it, but I would like to know what they think about it considering how it was them who started the whole Black Kids hype.
If they could provide a reason for 0.0 or 3.33 or whatever, OK, but without an actual review it really enforces the view of them as a hipster pricks.
Oh, one more interesting thing
The original "writer" was Ray Suzuki, who also wrote that Jet "chimp pissing into its own mouth" review.
So they're using a pseudonym for reviews where they don't actually review anything? Kinda dodgy...
not only
is there no review, which is a bit of a cop out but even the area on left under "pitchfork" is blank for me, there are no links to navigate out from here, what's happened to this site?
fuck me, even paul weller gets 7.9.
pitchdork!
i too find the Paul Weller rating more concerning
it's probably
more for his hair than his music!
the new site
doesn't like ie6, and the menu bar just disappears but is ok in firefox
Huh!?!?
It's moved from 0.0 to 3.3 now!
Do keep up
Im suprised
they even bothered to review it.
Throwaway review
or a throwaway album. Spot on.

According to the new author of the review...
It was simply a computer error left over from our server change a few weeks back. An eariler version of this same review-- created before we were sure we were going to run that, and with a placeholder rating, subhead, and author name (an old inside joke resurrected for the Jet review, which was conceived by a few people over lunch rather than one author)*-- was ported over and accidentally 'reverted to' in our system when I woke and it was changed asap. Sorry...it's a boring technical difficulty.
* It also takes three or four of us to change a lightbulb.
[from Idolator]
I'm sceptical.
i hate the band
but Pitchfork are fickle bastards
they give 8.8 to Vampire weekend; a band who are so bland, ineffectual, and annoying it hurts.
no magazine, internet site, should be taken as seriously as some do
it'd be a lot better if people found reviews on random blogs rather than these giants
"the new author of the review"
erm, pretty sure that is something which does not exist anywhere.
I like Pitchfork a lot.
But this is fucking stupid. I had no idea that they liked the EP, and so I totally missed the joke. Disapointing.
Have they
pulled the review from the site or is my computer just being shit!
This >>>>>>>>>>>>>> the Jet review
Also, Ida Maria is pretty hot
It's
comes up as 3.3 on my computer not 0.0?
Anyways, that joke is a bit old.

She has that awful likes you better when you're naked song
Aha.
That old trick.

It's still not much of a review, is it? You can't just go from http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/46095-wizard-of-ahhhs-ep to that without some explanation, and just "but we're Pitchfork!!!!111" isn't good enough.
