The only similarity I can see

Is that the Strokes are a pastiche of Televison and Vampire Weekend are a pastiche of Graceland.

rich

more successful than they should be
little bit boring ?

american

girls fancy them and like them despite knowing that they're a bit boring. this last point is 100% TRUTH.

But

Vampire Weekend aren't boring.

You're WRONG summers.

Yeah!

They're mind-destroyingly shit, clueless, soulless, charmless drivel. Oh, and tedious. Boring doesn't cover it.

They're both shit

correct answer

This

Because

both Vampire Weekend and Is This It are a pair of effortlessly glorious records, full of single-worthy songs that would spread glee in any indie club.

Both had lots of hype. Both lived up to the hype. Both sold loads in the UK but not as much over there. Both from New York.

^^^^Aye.

cos is you mixed graceland with

is this it you would get whatever the vampire weekend album is called - strokes/ television??? whuh

Example of bands with good singles and debuts

but are bound to get shitter and shitter?

i'm mainly talking about

musical comparisons, and not many of these responses are addressing that. both of them being fom the same city, for example, is completely irrelevant. fountains of wayne are from new york, doesn't mean their compared to the strokes

Well done on picking up on 1/6th of my points.

PS. Are you really that bothered?

Both bands

clearly think that they are a lot better than they really are and both put in minimal effort and sound so soulless

Ahh...

I saw VW at Glastonbury and WErchter this year and thought they were v good. Except that 'face' song which was rubbish.

Not groundbreaking but good clean fun.

yeah

just remember that Blake's got a new face

yes it bothers me

it's like comparing the stooges to paul simon

who made that comparison?

Vampire Weekend are more like The Beatles. Strokes are Velvet Underground.

easy answer.

Both are very simple catchy songs played with bass and guitar and drums.

They play quite short pop songs.
The drums are really simple.
The guitars are tight and intricate with lots of downward strumming.
They're both from New York.
The production is really similair.

The production is really similar?

Absolutewhatthefuck?

Bang on the money

I watched Vampire Weekend, with a Brazillian lad who's never heard of them, he ask me: "Why are these white boys playing west african music?"

Class!

Both massively hyped NYC bands

that few people can admit aren't actually all that?

because

music journos make lazy comparisons
